  • **A stylistically daring story of an aging revolutionist re-examines his life in the wake of several unusual incidents. The film starts slowly examining each character and interaction with a methodical urgency. Diago is stopped at the Spanish border and seems worried. He's become known to the Spanish authorities and has become a detriment to the cause. In France he becomes torn between his love for a young activist and his longtime lover. Renais uses jump-cuts, voice-overs and disolves to tell his story and the complexity makes it visually exciting. However the film's real power comes from its subtle emotional suspense. Renais creates fully realized characters bursting with complications and contradictions. The result is a film that moves slowly, creating tension through the reactions to events. A brilliant film in which every scene is important to the next, and this puzzle pays off in a dynamite conclusion.

How do you decide which movie(s) you're going to review on the given list?

I am currently reviewing the movies as I see them, so any of the film I review I have seen in the last 3 weeks.

I had dreams of reviewing them all until I realized how many of them there were and said "are you a masochist?".

Have you seen Born Free Jim, and what did you think?

But I suppose if you really wanted a review I could give U 1.

As is often the answer when you ask me, I haven't seen Born Free, I'm afraid.

How 'bout reviewing your favorite movie of each year?

Done Jim, I'll get crackin' on the reviews.

Born Free is a family film about lions and a woman and a man teaching them to be Born Free free as the wind, free as...

I say, watch it with your daughter since it's a sweet, innocent hoot of a movie.
