... That so many previously indistinguished elements came together so perfectly here continues to amaze me. A movie with no weaknesses, as near as I can tell.Really Liked
Cat People
... The movie relies on a slow build as we wonder whether our hero has married a woman with serious jealousy and sexual awakening issues or someone with genuine supernatural concerns. As such, it needs to pay off and it does, handsomely. The nighttime walk home is genuinely tense, as is the pool scene, and I even jumped once. Not bad for 1942!Glad I Saw
The Jungle Book
The Palm Beach Story
... On my Preston Sturges challenge ladder, this one trails Sullivan's Travels by a length and The Lady Eve by a mile, but it's still quite a bit of fun, and I always feel enjoyably scandalized when these movies from the 40s talk about sex so frankly. I'm also glad I watched it for the line, "That's one of the tragedies of this life - that the men who are most in need of a beating up are always enormous."Guilty Pleasures
