- 1. Robbie Robertson –Storyville Along with his self-titled debut this is Robbie’s bold attempt to show that he really was the genius behind The Band. He almost pulls it off too. The Band was great because Robertson had some great counter-balances and some great musicians. On Storyville, Robertson heads to New Orleans and he gets the best that city has to offer to help him out. A real nice disc.
- 2. Dwight Yoakam- Last Chance for a Thousand Years-Greatest hits of the 90’s Yoakam and my number three choice Lyle Lovett are memorialized together forever in Mary Chapin Carpenter’s hit “I Got Lucky”. It shows Carpenter has good taste in music, though I do question her physical choices in amorous desires. Yoakam had a wonderful decade in the 90’s. Not country enough for Nashville and too country for mainstream Pop. Dwight blazed a trail of individuality. My kind of Country music for sure.
- 3. Lyle Lovett- I Love Everybody This too is my kind of country but that label fits less with Lyle than Dwight. I really enjoy a lot of Lovett’s music but this is my personal favorite. A compilation of throw-offs, unreleased and new material it is kind of a stew of styles and influences. Lovett is mentioned a lot of times on listology but never this gem.
- 4. Del Amitri- Waking Hours This band is never mentioned on listology by anyone beside myself. It could mean they are a hidden treasure or everyone thinks they are not noteworthy. Either will be fine with me because this album was one of my all time favorite impulse buys- you know heard one song and bought the disc anyway. My Disc collection is full of mistake impulse buys. But this Scottish band has it all together on this great disc.
- 5. Paul Westerberg-14 songs This one surprised me that it wasn’t mentioned on Listology yet. The Replacements lead singer’s first solo effort is still his best. I bought it for Dyslexic Heart but soon fell in love with a lot of this great disc. Of course it helps that it is the closest he came to sounding like The Replacements in his solo career.
- 6. Johnny Nicholas-Too Many Bad Habits Lots of blues albums I could put on this list. This one hit wonder is just superb as it easily crosses the line between Country and Blues and then it pretty much eliminates the line.
- 7. Bo Diddley- Bo is a Gunslinger This one has one of the great album covers ever done, Bo in full western regalia with guns ready. It also happens to have some of Bo’s better riffs. Certainly you can say Diddley is a one-note player, but what a note, what a riff, what an album.
- 8. Tom Jones- Best of Cheesy, campy, maudlin, over the top? Of course it is but that’s what makes it fun. A great set of pipes and my mother’s favorite musician. Prince liked him, so it can’t be all bad.
- 9. Was (Not Was) -What up Dog Weird bordering on genius. I know people who love this album and I know many who loathe it too. To me its fun catchy stuff. Not all of it is great but enough for me to recommend. Just don’t blame me if you hate it.
- 10. The Band-Jubilation Proof that Robertson wasn’t the only star in this band. Levon Helm and Rick Danko sound great and I say the best The Band has sound post Last Waltz.

This is a hodge-podge of recommenadtions. I was listening to Robbie Robertson's Storyville this weekend and thought i would see if anyone on listology had ever mentioned it. No Luck.
This gave me the idea to come up with this list. I would love to see this list cloned. I am always looking for recommendations.
It could be I missed someone mentioning these Discs, but the search engine came up empty.

The Del Amitri is the only one I've heard out of all 10. I really liked them at one time, but sold off all of their cds at some point since I didn't listen to them anymore.
I love Penguins that's my favorite. Was (Not Was), nope. I'll go with The Boo Radleys thankyou very much. :?) Paul Westerberg sounds naked without the Replacements. :/<---confused by Paul
Ummm. I don't mean to quibble, but Dyslexic Heart isn't on 14 Songs.
Imagine my surprise when I bought the CD and it wasn't even on it...I then had to go buy the Singles Soundtrack to get the song.....
Actually this is just proof that I should read some of the stuff I write on this sometime...
