1. Modest Mouse: 3rd Planet

There's a lot of modest mousing in the lyrics games these days.

13. Streets: It's Too Late

I'm really glad that this was the first one guessed. I was considering going for a harder one, but I just love this song too much.

Modest Mouse and I have been tight ever since I picked up Moon and Anarctica on a whim two years ago. I love them with all my musical heart.

In regard to the recent Modest Mouse surge, I blame it on the fact that the public eventually picked up on Moon and Antarctica and their popularity only increased with their sudden media visibility. I'm basing this on the fact that very few people I knew listened to them until Moon and Antarctica became a sleeper hit among certain friends of mine, and suddenly, everyone is crazy about them.

Actually I had been avoiding Modest Mouse for a long time. Recently picking up Moon and Good News about 2 months ago. Two really great albums indeed and the lyrics just stick in your mind.

I know several more but I think 4 is enough for now. I'll give the late-comers a chance.

I'm glad to hear that you know quite a few. You know, we do have similar taste in music, so that doesn't surprise me at all.

I'll be adding songs in the future, so don't be bashful with the guessing.

#29 is champange from a paper cup by death cab for cutie

one of their best old songs

28. Yeah Yeah Yeahs: Y Control

32. Lou Reed: Viscious

this songs a hoot

Poifect on both.

kay well here they are.

3. Joni Mitchell: This Flight Tonight
14. Simon & Garfunkel: The Sounds Of Silence
20. The Rapture: Heaven
26. Bowie: Oh! You Pretty Things

4 for 4.

18 - Elliott Smith - Needle in the Hay

50 - Spinal Tap - Big Bottom

53 - Fastball - The Way

Great job on all three!

Well, I don't know too many of these, but I will pick up the token BNL lyric:

21. I'll Be That Girl - Barenaked Ladies

And a few more I think I know:

42. If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out - Cat Stevens
49. Cut Your Hair - Pavement

Great game! #31 sounds familiar too, but I can't place it. And #58 doesn't sound familiar at all, but I really like that lyric.

I knew you'd get that BNL one. I used a non-single on purpose. I'm glad you got it.

You're right on the other two. I almost didn't use the Pavement quote because I knew you had it on a list of yours (I think it was the time you were listing essential singles of every decade) but I couldn't resist, because I love that line.

Hmm... I used that quote on a list of mine? Or do you just mean I used the song on my post on this list (which I think is the essential singles list you're talking about)? It's a great line, but I don't think I've used the quote itself anywhere.

I was indeed just referring to the song. I just meant that I felt compelled to use the song even though I knew you were very familiar with it in particular.

That's cuz 58. if Franz Ferdinand - The Dark Of The Matinee and it makes my patootie shake from here to Missouri.

whick incidentally is one of the songs on my lyrics game.

Oh really? I must take a closer look!

Congrats on another point.

#40 is from Don't Look Back in Anger by Oasis.

i'll have the dumplings, no MSG please

23. Postal Service: Such Great Heights

That one hurt my brain.

Man, you've taken a bit of a lead.

Hope you get some painkiller.

5. - I gotta run, so I only have time for one right now. Neil Young - A Man Needs a Maid.

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

That's it, that's what that is.

Wait, I know another one. I think.

31. Bob Dylan - Lay Lady Lay?

30. SoCo Amaretto Lime by Brand New

62 is the Pretenders' "Lovers of Today." 66 sounds real familiar, but I can't place it.

08 is Laid by James
15 is Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins
58 is Soma by the Strokes
65 is Ultraviolet (Light My Way) by U2
66 is the Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight by REM
67 is Better Be Quiet Now by Elliot Smith i think
that's all I know

Of course! "Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight"! I should've gotten that, and I should've gotten #65 too. Well done, sseay!

I remembered your listing of "The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight" as a song whose lyrics you didn't understand.

Don't worry, I'm not sure I would get some of these were I not running the quiz.

Heh. Yeah, I suck at these. I've definitely had to look up a few lyrics on my own quizzes when I forgot where they came from.

Hey! I've had to double-check myself too!

Some songs just aren't written for the lyrics...

15 is HUMMER by the Smashing Pumpkins NOt Cherub rock

69. Radiohead "Exit Music (For A Film)"

just keeping my lead.

#35 Aside by the Weakerthans

I don't usually get these but I have been listening to them a lot lately

17. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
47. Veronica - Elvis Costello
61. Can You Get to That? - Funkadelic

78 is, I believe, "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist" from Avenue Q.

YES! I'm so glad someone recognized that one.

Also, I was secretly hoping it would be you, because I thought Avenue Q would appeal to your sense of humor.

Oh definitely. A friend gave me the soundtrack for my birthday, and in fact, I'm going up to New York for some more pre-college-hanging-out-with-my-family-quality-time to see it and Wicked soon. Yay!

Actually, I think I put a different Avenue Q lyric on one of my lyric quizzes, but no one got it.

I'll have to find that!

My dad and sis (and a whole lot of the cast of Grease, which I was just in) saw Wicked, and all of them are raving. They loved it. You're lucky that you're gonna catch Idina. She's supposed to be wonderful.

Shame about Kristen and Joel Grey, though.

#70 is from Chicks and Dicks by Junior Senior! Yay! Someone else who loves Junior Senior! :)

Hells yeah, Junior Senior rocks.

16. Personality Crisis - The New York Dolls

80: Rock 'n Roll Suicide - David Bowie

24. The Shins - So Says I

And darn it, 57 was on the tip of my tongue, but I had to google it and therefore take myself out of the running.

You got it! I was hoping people were gonna pick up on 57. Fun song.

Alright, I try to hold off on these, but there is such an easy, obvious one remaining. I can no longer stay quiet.

68 - Venus as a Boy - Bjork

Comm'on, why did nobody get this?

Shalom, y'all!

L. Bangs

Good job, Mr. Bangs.

09. sleater-kinney "you're no rock n roll fun"

57. nick lowe "so it goes"

A+ on both, Ms. Amber.

PS: How's Nick?

73.Oh it's such a shame for us to part The Scientist by Coldplay

Since I'm clearly on a lyric quiz roll...

37 - Dead End Street, the Kinks

46. "The Way We Get By," Spoon. [Kill The Moonlight]
64. "I Was Born (A Unicorn)," The Unicorns. [Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?]
74. "Cause=Time," Broken Social Scene. [You Forgot it in People]
very very nice!

11 is from into the woods, the last midnight.right?

A couple of these sound familiar, but the only one I know for sure is #76 - "Cowboy Dan" by Modest Mouse.

71 is new pornographers: The Slow Descent Into Alchoholism.

I knew someone would get that eventually. Good job.

33. "I got my head shaved for her"

I love that song.

- carlos14

19. "I met a man who lived his life out on the road/Who left a wife and kids in Portland on a whim"

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD - Stars and the Moon

This is definitely an obscure one.

- carlos14

This won't be the first time I suddenly had a revelation that connects me to a long-forgotten lyric game, but I heard Biz Markie's "Just a Friend" today and paid attention to the lyrics for the first time, and somehow it dawned on me that I had heard one line from a lyric game before. I had to scour Listology to find what game it was from, but there it is, #59.
