When all the dust settles from the roar of the rock age, Elvis Costello will truly stand as one of the absolute greats. Really.
For my money, searching around and buying the Ryko versions is a much better deal than picking up the newer Rhino double-disc'ers. Better, leaner, and meaner song selections, and sound that retains the bite as well as the bloom.
WAY too few people have explored the work of this rock god, so get crackin'!

This Year's Model is #1? I've listened to the first four of Costello's and honestly I can't tell which is best. I really liked "My Aim is True", it's too charming, and "Armed Forces" had a lot of the best songs. Get Happy! I feel was the most consistant.
Wait, this was written 5 years ago?
Wow, yup. Half a decade ago, I guess.
With each passing year, Trust closes in on This Year's Model as my favorite Costello album. Also, Get Happy!!! rises higher and higher in his canon, to these ears.
I also love the newer The Delivery Man.
Great stuff!
Shalom, y'all!

I haven't heard "The River in Reverse" (his collaboration with Allen Toussusianiannnt) but I've heard some good things about it...is it on par with his other material?
I like it. I wouldn't quite put it on par with his classic material, though, and I enjoy The Delivery Man more...
