We're at 400. 400 trance songs. OMGWTFBBQ (Took long enough)

  1. First off, I would like to thank darktremor for his incredibly huge list. Without it, I would never have discovered about 200 of these 400 songs and therefore would have a short list indeed! Thank you. I would also like the thank the people commenting on this list (not many) and the people sending me e-mails full of songs (more of you. The exact reverse of the usual order of things around here...*shrug*). ALL song suggestions are welcome at this point, as long as they do not include any of the following:
  2. A) A breakdown longer than three minutes
  3. B) Heavy radioplay
  4. C) Any of the following words: Launch, Frog, Ordinary, Oakenfold.
  5. D) A spot on the list already
  6. E) A spot in the "songs to be downloaded and judged" or "judgement has been passed on" sections.
  7. Easy rules, right? So follow them and enjoy my list ;)
  8. Ah! One more thing till you get to the meat. There are no "placation tunes" on here-I've had one or two people suggest I only have certain songs on here to please people like darktremor or Alacrit or TranceAcddict. I do not. "Heliopolis" is not just a song I threw on the list because it's considered amazing and I wanted it on there even though I don't even like it that much. I do enjoy the track, but I enjoy everything above it more. As I say in my note below- don't assume the size of the list is teh way it is because I include every trance song I've ever heard on it. I do not. Nor do I have songs on there just because other people have them (Ballroom's 4AM, while on a couple other lists around here, will simply never be good enough. Period.) So there you have it- it is my guarantee that every single song on here was chosen solely by me and that I was not influenced in any other way. Capische? Good. If you're gonna email me something like that, I'll simply delete it.
  9. Okay. The list is bein updated with years, subgenres, and yes, bad descriptions. Enjoy.
  10. KEY TO SUBGENRES
  11. A: Anthem
  12. AC: Acid
  13. AM: Ambient/Ibiza
  14. B: Breaktrance
  15. C: Classic
  16. D: Dream
  17. DU: Dutch
  18. E: Epic
  19. G: Goa/Psy
  20. H: Hard
  21. HA: Hard Acid
  22. M: "Minimal"
  23. P: Progressive
  24. S: Symphonic
  25. T: Tech-trance
  26. U: Unclassified; I have no idea what to call it.
  27. Underworld - Dirty Epic (1994)
  28. Wow. A new champion. Starts off with lovely vocals and then shifts again and again and again to reveal a wonderful, plucky bassline and a gorgeous guitar, which seem to blend perfectly with the vocals until a real eargasm is attained. Easily the best.
  29. The Aztec Mystic - Night Of The Jaguar (1999)
  30. Flutes, detroit techno beats, and what sounds like a full orchestra. Everything that every tech-trance song wishes it could be, all in an absolutely gorgeous package. If tech-trance had a society, this would be on a Wheaties box.
  31. Chicane - Offshore (1996)
  32. Ibiza trance. I have nothing new to offer about this song, except if you haven't heard it, get it.
  33. DJ Taucher - Atlantis (Phase 3) (1998)
  34. Wow. Anthem trance in a totally unique form. They stop the drums about four times, but that just adds to this tune's appeal. A monster of a monster. Fantastic, easily the best anthem trance tune.
  35. Marc Houle - Bay Of Figs (2006)
  36. I'M MEEELLLLTING! You may think so when you first hear that bassline, but it's an acid trip in a song, absolutely sick. That simple yet addictive bassline at the end doesn't hurt either. Minimal's greatest triumph.
  37. Airscape - L’Esperanza (Tiesto Remix) (1999)
  38. Powerful yet simple. It's a fairly straightforward anthem, but it's oh so catchy.
  39. DJ Tiesto - Suburban Train (2001)
  40. Same as Offshore, except this is epic.
  41. The PQM - You Are Sleeping (Luke Chable Meets The PQM Vocal Pass) (2003)
  42. Woooooeeeeeey. Haunting, trippy, and oh so lovely. It sounds a bit like house, but don't let that deter you-it's so worth it.
  43. Union Jack - Red Herring (1995)
  44. Acidic bath. There's a vocal breakdown around the middle that sounds like the evilest circus in history. At least, to me.
  45. Keane - This Is The Last Time (Martin Roth Remix) (2004)
  46. More people need to hear this song, and the right version of it. Not that crappy, four minute, vocals rising and faling thing. The real deal. Complete with full synthed-out vocals and pounding piano bassline.
  47. Underworld - Moaner (1997)
  48. Hoo boy. Another creepy one. The vocals are scary, and that melody just seems to creep up on you. More tech-trance here. Call it the polar opposite of Night of the Jaguar.
  49. Age Of Love - Age of Love (Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Mix) (1992)
  50. Energy 52 - Café del Mar (Three N One Remix) (1997)

  561. Christ. Thanks a lot, people.
  562. Judgement has been passed on...
  563. "Touch Me"- Rui Da Silva (Tiesto Mix)
  564. Not nearly good enough. The vocals here were extremely dull and boring. The melody was forgettable. It's just blah. Nothing memorable, nothing amazing...nothing even good. This just won't do.
  565. "Viola"- Moogwai (Armin van Buuren Remix)
  566. Now this was nice. It's got a wonderful riff, a cool bassline, and a very nice track to club to. I've grooved to this one a bit. It's gonna make the list come next revision, probably in the top 100. *saves for next revision*
  567. "People Want To Be Needed"- Auranaut
  568. Cool. Lyrics were ethereal but not overwhelmingly so, had a good clubbing feel to it despite it's somewhat downtempo nature. It'll get a spot.
  569. "Winter"- DT8 Project
  570. Wonderful! The vocals here were not cheesy nor boring in the slightest, it had a cool riff, and I REALLY got the meaning of the track. It hit home. This will also get a slot.
  571. "Tranzy State Of Mind"- Push
  572. I got this one as soon as I saw "Push" cuz the man is my all-time favourite producer. So this was disappointing. It was just okay-not fantastc, but not something I would cringe away from. Maybe if it was by someone else and I hadn't gotten my hopes so high, it would make the list. For now, it just won't do.
  573. "Dawn"- Darren Tate
  574. This one is rather lovely. A nice melody-under-the-melody, but neither melody is techno, and it's a good watch-the-sunrise song (Hence the name, probably). This will get a spot.
  575. "Urban Shakedown"- Solar Factor
  576. This one I liked. Remniscent of pre-Airwave, when the breakdown was only about thirty seconds long, and then the melody took over and started driving. Another top-100 effort.
  577. "Chase The Sun"- Planet Funk
  578. House. Not trance. If I was making a house list, however, this would be in the top 20, no contest. I adored this one. I may make an exception on this list to include it. Stay tuned...
  579. "Silent Waves"- Jonas Steur
  580. It's got one of those mega breakdowns, a little over a minute long. But that's soon forgotten by a lovely melody. It's a pretty little tune, reminds me of Mirco de Govia's "Voller Sterne" or "Children". It'll be added.
  581. "Amphetamine"- Drax Limited 2
  582. In a word: Wicked. In more than one: It's got a WICKED bassline and the intro is very ethereal and haunting, far from your average mixhead. It'll make the list.
  583. "Amsterdam"- Luminary (Smith & Pledger Remix)
  584. I love it when vocal trance has lyrics so cheesy they're pathetic, and this comes close. But she has quite a nice voice, and the melody is a blend of haunting and sorrowful. It'll be worthy of a lower slot.
  585. "Papel"- Oliver Lieb vs Preach
  586. Not much to say here. Standard Oliver Lieb fare. It'll make the list toward the bottom.
  587. "Sunrise" (Here I Am)- Ratty
  588. Why does this track remind me of Sandstorm? This one may appeal to some people but the breakdown is too damn long and the lyrics are too damn cheesy for me to take it seriously.
  589. "The First Rebirth"- Trance Allstars (Taucher Remix)
  590. Dude...the buildup here almost made my head explode. SOOOOO messed up. And I LOVED it. Wonderful.
  591. "I Found You"- Interstate
  592. Now this was nice. It was very soft and ambient, it had no real bang...you just kind of float along. Before you know it, ten minutes are gone and you're crying and didn't even know it. So yes, this will qualify.
  593. "Fly Away"- Vincent de Moor (Thrillseekers Remix)
  594. Thrillseekers never seem to disappoint, and this track is hardly an exception. Big, powerful build and some nice little effects with the bassline. Worthy of a lower slot.
  595. "Toca's Miracle"- Fragma
  596. Yawn. Not cheesy like most Fragma work, but nothing very impressive. Not adding it.
  597. "Rock Your Body Rock"- Ferry Corsten
  598. It was pretty cool. But it bored me about halfway through, though the riff was killer. Not a bad track...but it'll probably check in near the bottom. Dead bottom.
  599. "Dido"- Aria (Armin van Buuren Remix)
  600. Nah. Too dull. Too blah.
  601. "Bass Control"- Mario Pia
  602. See above.
  603. "Day Dream"- Absolute
  604. Yet another Push alias? Well, this had a really cool riff. I mean, stuck in my head cool. It's good enough.
  605. "Enervate"- Transa
  606. The only Tranceport song that will fail to make the list. It was way too boring. Maybe it's because it WAS on Tranceport, and it had a LOT to live up to. But it's not good enough.
  607. "In My Heart"- Ethan
  608. Dis is teh house. But it's quite good, like the Planet Funk track.
  609. "You Are Sleeping"- The PQM (Luke Chable Meets The PQM Vocal Pass)
  610. I was sure I had this track on there....I'll add it.
  611. "Every Time You Need Me"- Fragma
  612. Oh, God. Somebody stop the pain. Remind me to murder whoever suggested this.
  613. "El Nino"- Agnelli & Nelson
  614. Not as good as others may think. The break was way too damn long...I just was waiting...waiting....waiting...zzzzzzz. But I found a radio edit with some very good vocals to entertain you during said break, and that is the version that will be going on to this list.
  615. "Venus"- Stoneface & Terminal
  616. Wonderful! This is a 2006 song that stands out. I love the effect about three minutes in...CHOOF! CHOOF! CHOOF! CHOOF! AHAHAHAAH WOW THIS TRACK IS FUN! I THINK it's trying to be serious, but it's coming off as really happy and fun....oh, it's so gosh-darn cute, I'll add it.
  617. "Das Glockenspeil"- Schiller (Humate Remix)
  618. Not bad! Will be added.
  619. "Massive Motion"- MIKE
  620. Ooooh, candy. This is ear candy right here, and typical Push. I have a feeling this guy will worm his way onto my list with every singlee one of his 2 million aliases, because this is very partiful and anthemic, and will make the list.
  621. "Cruising"- Allure
  622. Not good enough. Especially considering the many many other Allure productions Tiesto has done.
  623. "Delirio"- Baracoa (Venus Mix)
  624. Quite a pretty song. This earns a lower slot.
  625. "Backfire"- Signalrunners
  626. This is rather pretty, but it won't qualify due to a breakdown approximately 2 million years long.
  627. "Activate"- Accessive Rhythm
  628. Not bad! Will add it.
  629. "Mistaken"- B&W (Fictivision Remix)
  630. Dark yet floor-filling. Even the breakdown is forgiveable. This will buy a lower slot.
  631. "Sounds Rushing"- Dominic Plaza
  632. Nice! This will qualify.
  633. "Someday"- Whiteroom
  634. Very nice and pretty! This is a really good track indeed.
  635. "Dream Makers"- Kuffdam & Plant
  636. Very Dutch, but the riff is killer enough to save it.
  637. "La Noche"- Coca & Villa
  638. Incredible! Very unconventional trance. I loved the guitar! This is going up very high indeed.
  639. "Sun Coming Up"- Ayla
  640. Cheese a la Good (see Niels van Gogh's track)
  641. "Endless Desire"- Varian (Mark Otten Remix)
  642. Lovely! The riff here is something memorable.
  643. "Return To Tazmania"- Delegate vs Emo-Trance
  644. Kinda danced around this one (Emo-Trance being the main reason why) but this song is actually really freaking good! Will be added.
  645. "Strange Days"- Dos Deviants
  646. Nah.
  647. "Elevation"- Dos Deviants
  648. Now THIS is more like it! Good song.
  649. "Easter Island"- Art Of Trance (Cygnus X Remix)
  650. Another good-riffing tune!
  651. "Tears From The Moon"- Conjure One (Tiesto Remix)
  652. Not too shabby. Vocals were good. Tune was okay. But these are the BEST songs, and this isn't best material.
  653. "The Spell"- Volition
  654. See Backfire.
  655. "This Is The Last Time"- Keane (Martin Roth Remix)
  656. How did I forget this tune? I LOVE it!
  657. "Ecstacy"- ATB (Club Mix)
  658. Very nice! It's a cut above other ATB work, I'd say.
  659. "Lost Cities"- Solid Globe
  660. Yeah, this tune is pretty cool. Will be added.
  661. "Personal Reflexion"- Jericho
  662. Ho! Certainly not even close to bad! Very indeed skilled!
  663. "Air"- Albion (Oliver Lieb Remix)
  664. Yeah, this track is pretty cool.
  665. "Higher State Of Conciousness"- Josh Wink
  666. Sick! I loved the acid in this one.
  667. "Far From Over"- Kamaya Painters
  668. Yeah baby. Keep the good times rollin'
  669. "Dreaming Of You"- Thrillseekers
  670. Is it cheese? Yes. Is it good? OMFG YES YES YES YES YES.
  671. "Wavy Gravy"- Sasha
  672. FANTASTIC! This MIGHT make the top 10.
  673. "Tyrantantic"- Breeder (Slacker's Kingdom Come Mix)
  674. Very cool. I loved the breakdowns here, they really built tension.
  675. "Another Way"- Paul van Dyk
  676. A worthy track.
  677. "Everytime"- Lustral (Mike Koglin Remix)
  678. Yeah, this is a prety cute tune.
  679. "Mercury & Solace"- BT
  680. Damn, I knew I missed one...much thanks.
  681. "Beautiful" (A Glimpse Of Heaven)- DJ Shah (Long Island Dub)
  682. Sweet track. Cool little effects.
  683. "Edge Of Space"- Zirenz (Whiteroom Remix)
  684. I do recall sorta bashing this on darktremor's list, but I've since taken that back- this is a pretty cool tune.
  685. "Venus" (Meant To Be Your Lover)- Cor Finjemann (Tiesto Remix)
  686. This was a pretty cool track.
  687. "Sunstroke"- Chicane
  688. Wonderful way to round out the next batch of 50! Expect an update sometime soon.
  689. ............THE SECOND WAVE OF TUNES
  690. The tunes that will be judged at we approach the BIG 300. Let us begin!
  691. "I Want You"- Kyra vs Velez (George Acosta Remix)
  692. I despise Acosta as a producer, but this tune could very well be forgiveness for all the crap he ever did. The guitars in this track are absolutely killer, and the guy doesn't pound you with them right away, letting them kick in well past two and a half minutes on my version. The lyrics are chopped up finely. This is gonna be the track I remember Acosta for, hands down.
  693. "Southern Sun"- Oakenfold (Tiesto Remix)
  694. Yeah, yeah, I know, my rules say no Oakenfold, but as I've heard good things about this song, and as I see Tiesto's name in the title, I figure what the hell. The track is vocal, and seems to rely on vocals to carry it as opposed to melody, but what little of the latter there is isn't bad. A lower spot tune.
  695. "Open Your Mind"- Yahel
  696. It's Yahel. It's good. It's worthy.
  697. "Krass"- DJ Merlin
  698. With a name like DJ Merlin, your track had better be damn good. This is not. Stupid "vocal sample", stupid melody....this sounds like something 50 Cent and ICP would push out if both were smoking huge crack rocks all day.
  699. "Love Angel"- The Gift
  700. Sorry, Push. Not good enough.
  701. "Strings Utld."- Chiller Twist (Shelley Mix)
  702. I love that cute little riff in the first half of the song, and the vocal samples is quite relaxing. I just enjoy it.
  703. "Lighthouse"- Alucard
  704. Ugh. I won't even try to pretend I don't adore this tune anymore. I've been addicted to it for months. Up it goes.
  705. "Madagascar"- Art Of Trance (Cygnus X Remix)
  706. Hey, it really is better than Corsten's remix! I'll move this up on the list come next major update.
  707. "Sirens Of The Sea"- Oceanlab (Kyau vs Albert Vocal Mix)
  708. I love the lyrics here. Vocal trance has a habit of redeeming itself every once in a while.
  709. "Parasight"- Balil
  710. I'm listening to it for the first time as I type this...two minutes mark. It seems to be developing a bit. Ah, I think I hear some acid! What is that in the background? Sounds like some Indian snake charming thing. Oh, this tune is getting trippy! (three and a half minutes.) This tune...I think it's being acid with just a touch of uplifting. Ugh...the inclusion of a two-minute long mixing tail will drop it some. But this is a very good track.
  711. "Stella"- Jam & Spoon
  712. I would be shocked if I didn't like this one. 30 seconds in as I type this. Just some basic drums and a little melody. Waiting for something brilliant. Ah, I just heard a little acid, I do believe! Ah, those pianos are lovely. Oh, there's those guitars. Lovely! Just lush and wonderful, I'm in Atlantis, paradise, I'm in heaven!
  713. ...
  714. Stop. What is this girl doing? No, no, no, no, no! You're ruining paradise! Shut up! SHUT UP! Who are you? Why would I love you? Why would I hold you? Stop seducing me! You're getting in the way of Stella! STELLLLA! Oh, your name had better be Stella, girl, cuz otherwise you aint got nothing to do with this track. Oh, those guitars are back. And now she dropped the "hold me" and is just focusing on "love me." Well, she's back to both phrases. And, it's over. If not for that stupid bitch, this would be a top ten track. She drops it to the 30s though.
  715. "Take A Freefall"- Dance 2 Trance
  716. 30 seconds in, and I already know it's going up. I won't waste my time pointing out its brilliance.
  717. "Hello San Francisco"- Dance 2 Trance
  718. Classic trance strikes again. Bloody brilliant tune.
  719. "How Much Can You Take?"- The Visions Of Shiva
  720. Note: I've been listening to the past 5 songs as I've reviewed them (except the previous one, in which I began the review toward the end.) Now...this tune kicks off with a nice piano melody and I just started to hear some etheral-sounding chanting and whispers. And now we have a synth here, the riff is actually really good. Drums just kicked back in, and we have something of an anthem going on here. My girlfriend (listening to it with me) likes it too. Hell, this track is a grand effort from PvD. It's going up, for sure.
  721. "The Prophet"- CJ Bolland
  722. A sermon in a trance song? Talk about irony. But this guy makes it work, which reminds me of another song in my collection that slipped through the cracks far too long...
  723. "Save My Soul"- Jon The Dentist
  724. Because of this and CJ Bolland's track, Sermon Trance (?) will make it's debut on my list.
  725. "No One On Earth"- Above & Beyond (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
  726. Erm, I thought I included this too...right. Added it shall be.
  727. "Perfect Day"- The Visions Of Shiva
  728. I have a nice little commentary on the music video on another one of my lists. But as for the song itself...I do recall some people kinda biching about the chanting, but I actually enjoy it. Very good song.
  729. "Underwater"- System F
  730. The true gem on Corsten's mix CD (Passport). It only has a breakdown of about twenty seconds, the instrumentation is gorgeous, and the pace is lively. Wonderful.
  731. "Black Onyx"- Kompressor (The Green Martian Remix)
  732. Pleasant hard trance tune. Good for a lower position.
  733. "Amor De Dios"- Duende (Jet Set Extended Mix)
  734. Loved it.
  735. "I Know"- Hidden Sound System
  736. Lovely tune. Reminds me of Beachball with its chilled atmosphere.
  737. "Former Self"- Icon Of Coil
  738. I hear nothing remotely trancey about this song whatsoever.
  739. "Mistral"- GTR
  740. Just...not...good enough.
  741. "Breathe In You"- Tekara
  742. Woo woo. Progessive stuff. Not a bad track. I actually liked the lyrics :D
  743. "Arcadia"- Gabriel & Dresden
  744. Y'all have no idea how long I've been wanting to add this one and subsequently forgetting. On it goes.
  745. "Circa Forever"- Rapid-Eye
  746. Same as above.
  747. "Exhale"- System F ft. Armin van Buuren
  748. Dutch it may be, it's still a tune I can rock to. And up it goes.
  749. "Without You Near"- Departure (Gabriel & Dresden Remix)
  750. Lovely song. Worth my time on a lower position.
  751. "Komodo" (Save A Soul)- Mauro Picotto
  752. Almost never has a breakdown wowed me. But in this one, it's so perfect, the lyrics so wonderful, the atmosphere so incrdible...it's like a diferent song. A very high entry.
  753. "More Than A Life Away"- Marco V
  754. It's no coincidence there's no Marco V on this list. I flat-out don't like the guy. This track did nothing to refute that opinion.
  755. "Brainticket"- Ramin
  756. Helloooo! Do I hear some high-quality classic and slightly melodic trance? Welcome to the list!
  757. "The Sound Of Goodbye"- Perpetuous Dreamer (Dark Matter Remix)
  758. Lovely tune from Armin, and very epic.
  759. "Yet Another Day"- Armin van Buuren
  760. Heh. I got 10 Years. You can tell, right? And up on the list it goes.
  761. "Kernkraft 400"- Zombie Nation
  762. Everybody's heard this tune, but I never knew what it was until I heard it. Good reccomendation.
  763. "Back On Earth"- The Voyager
  764. I like this one. On it is.
  765. "Don't Stop"- ATB
  766. Sound like a remix of 9PM. And The Summer. But it's also different. So I'll add it. I guess. But low.
  767. "Sacred"- Sander Kleinenberg
  768. This is relaxing. The vocals ddin't dominate like they do in most trance songs.
  769. "Velvet Morning"- Kyau vs Albert
  770. For all the crap they pushed out, it's hard to believe they could create such a masterpiece.
  771. "Escape"- Kaycee
  772. Cheesy A La Extreme. And it's not trance.
  773. "Don't Give Up"- Chicane
  774. HELL yeah! My second-favourite producer DELIVERS, baby. GREAT song!
  775. "The Legacy"- Push
  776. And now a bomb from my #1 fave? Can this day get any better?
  777. "Heaven Scent"- Bedrock
  778. The answer is yes.
  779. "Clear Blue Water"- Oceanlab
  780. I really owe the creators of YouTube a thank-you. These past 4 gems have videos on there.
  781. "Satellite"- Oceanlab
  782. *Lassic is too busy partying himself out to write the review. Assuming he'll keep dancing to this song until he drops unconcious, he will pass its approval in about six hours*- Ayla (Lassic's girlfriend)
  783. "Yimanya"- Filterheadz
  784. Looooooovely. Seriously. My girlfriend don't like it cuz she says its annoying. Her loss. Awesome track. Onto the list.
  785. (I just listened to all these songs while riffling through my CD's. They're all approved)
  786. "Synthetica"- Sean Dexter (Extended Mix)

Author Comments:

Alternatively, you can check out my man Alacritmusic's also brilliant and well thought-out list.
Blind has a good thing going too.

Awesome awesome list. I love your feedback on select songs, especially your input on Darude's "Sandstorm." Its all too sad, but all too true, its become nearly stereotypical for people to misuse the phrase "I like 'techno'..." and follow it up with "...like that 'Sandstorm' song!!!!"

...it shall soon be followed up by Benny Benassi's "Satisfaction," if not already tieing in ranks. *weeps*

Tiesto's version of "Adagio for Strings" is truelly a powerful version, I can't believe I didn't put it on my list, I too heard that version first, before William Orbit, Jada, or anyone else, and had it playing on repeat for quite some time.

I know, it's terrible.

THEM: "Yeah, that techno sh!t, that Sandstorm track and that better off alone song, yeah man I like techno, crazy frog, mhmm"

ME: "....WHY MUST EVERYONE BE SO GODDAM STUPID????"

Though I usually put it Northern Exposure at about the time they say Crazy Frog and pretend I heard nothing ^^

What about a song like:
The Killers - Mr. Brightside (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix)

or

DHT - Listen to your Heart (the radio version)

What category would those songs fit under?

I would put Mr. Brightside under house, the JlC mix was actually pretty good.

And the radio version of Listen To Your Heart was trance, though not the best kind. It was a bit cheesy. But it's good for new people, and it's not the worst cheese in the world.

I think your list is spot on mate, however as much as i love my classic trance, im definally into my hard trance at the moment

Chris

Hard trance is something I'm going to be investigating in the future, I have a few songs of it in my download bag. What can you tell me about Cinderella's "The Realm" or Ernesto vs Bastian's "Who Is The Starter?"

I will have to get back to you on those 2 songs, i will try and download somewere and listen, and give my verdict.

do you have msn?

Nah, if you don't have em don't worry about it. They're both in my Download pile, I just asked cuz they're both hard trance from what I've been told.

And my MSN is djspaydestryng@hotmail.com (To everyone who reads this, I never check my hotmail, so don't add me if you're just gonna spam. If you wanna add me to chat or talk trance, feel free.)

I've added you

Excellent. I should be on later, if you happen to be.

Just a couple of suggestions:

1) Da Hool- Meet Her At The Love Parade. This song has a very cool melody but the original frankly bores me after about a minute. The Nalin & Kane Mix in my opinion "finishes" the song off by adding synths and generally improving on it. If you haven't heard it get hold of it and you'll see what I mean.

2) Art of Trance- Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Mix). I don't know whether you've heard the Cygnus X mix but I seem to remember you having said you owned Forbidden Paradise 3 so you probably have. In which case you have probably decided Ferry Corsten's mix to be better already. On the slim chance you haven't get hold of the Cygnus X mix, it has less epic, more beautiful sounding synths and faster pace to it. In my opinion it is the superior but if you have heard both then I'm sure you have reasons for deciding upon the Ferry Corsten mix.

I actually own the Cygnus X mix, but I have never heard it. I have it on about four different CDs, so there's no excuse, but I'll certainly have a listen. I gotta check it out.

As for the N&K mix of Love Parade, I've never heard it. I'll most certainly check it out though. Thanks for the suggestions!

I am a Push fan also... though i haven't mentioned my Push favourites:
Push vs. Globe: Tranceformation (if i recommend a trance track to someone-this is it) and
Mauro Picotto: Back To Cali (Push Remix)--compared to the original, this is excelling it in every way for me.

More Push? *happiness*

I'll add your songs to the download list. Thanks for the suggestions, bro.

In Stella I actually don't mind those vocals, they go with the whole soothing feeling of the song, not like they are stupidly epic or anything. I suppose I can see why some people may not like them, but they might grow on you. This is the second song that pops into my head when I think of Ibiza Trance, number one being Beachball. Yeh, I know there's Cafe Del Mar (Three N One Mix) but that isn't Ibiza Trance.

Yeah, it pisses me off when people say Cafe del Mar is Ibiza trance. It's an Ibiza ANTHEM, not Ibiza trance. As for the first song that pops into my mind when I hear Ibiza trance, I think of Miro's "Paradise." Brilliant tune.

As for the Stella lyrics, I've had the song for two hours at the time of this posting, so they haven't really had time to grow on me yet. Who knows, you may be right.

(I also got Parasight, Take A Freefall, How Much Can You Take, and a ton of other classic trance on the same CD, so needless to say, It's been something of an addiction. Awesome disc.)

It certainly does sound like an awesome disc from the examples you've given. Just discovered hrdtrancer's classic trance list today. It has 150+ classic trance songs on there, so if you're really into classic trance atm I advise that as a good source.

It just occured to me Age Of Love has lyrics which are along the same line-ish (in style) yet no one seems to complain about them.

Well, the Age Of Love lyrics are extremely minimal, spanning about seven seconds of the song. I think they add to the atmosphere.

And I have seen his list and put a lot of the songs on it up for download. I'll be reviewing them sometiem soon, so stay tuned ;)

I love your add on in the beginning. That needs to be said. Personally, I refuse to add any song to my list before having heard the entire song myself.

... which is probably why alot of people think I'm ignoring them in numerous lists of mine... that I am not, I assure all of them that I'm still in search of those songs, and don't ever place according to others' opinions.

...which is why it took me forever to place "Suburban Train" on my list :)

The list still looks beautiful bro.

Thanks, dude. Glad to see you finally got the 150 up ;).

And yes, I've had people say to me "You only have Heliopolis cuz darktremor does! That's why its so low! You don't really like it!"

*insert anything on any other Listologists's list and replace their name above*

I mean, really. I'm a tad more mature than that. Of course I'l have high expectations for a song high up on a list, and it may go on high as well, but that's because I like the tune. I've taken songs from pretty much every other list on here (And I gotta thank you again for Everything Goes. Amazing song.)

I dunno. Can't change peoples minds, I suppose. But that's my guarantee, and I dare anyone to challenge me.

Oh, also, dude- I don't know how often you check my list, but it's getting a total facelift this month or next so be sure to check it. Once I have the next 50 songs I'm going to redo the whole thing. So look for that, it's gonna be massive.

I didn't know you got Ferry Corsten's "Everything Goes" from my list!!! All I remember is seeing that song on your list about a month ago and thinking "Hey, there's someone else in existence that knows that song besides me!!" Yeah...

And yeah, I've been checking your list. Wierd that you'd be giving it a facelift at this time... I just started rearranging the basic layout of my list today, preparing to overlook the order of all of my songs as well!

Good luck, dude ;). Maintaining a list on here is tough work, especially the massive updates at a time and ordering your songs (It doesn't sound hard, but it is, trust me!)

Off the subject but I was wondering if you could help me locate an artist and song title? It was probably late 90's early 0's and it had a female voice that sang, "I'm freeeeee, calll me" and this repeated. Thanks for any help you can offer.

DAYUM BOY!
Lol. You really put your work to yours as well.

Yes. Yes I did.

And was "Dayyum" in reference to the gigntic picture? I'll be honest, I have no idea how to shrink it. Anyone who could do it for me would be loved with leprechauns' gold.

Hey - Is this list still being updated? You should check out "Everytime We Touch (Rocco vs. Bass-T Remix)" by Cascada, and "Sisko Disco" by Rico Bass vs. DJ Bonito.

I like them but I don't know how you'd find them.

Also check out some Nick Skitz stuff - Pretty good!

Dude. You are not serious. Look at this list!

Tell me, how many SUPER CHEESE MAINSTREAM CLUB ANTHEMS do you see? I count.....two.

And they're both very good tracks worth their salt.

Cascada's song made my ears feel like I had taken a time warp back to 2003 when I called everything techno and thought Oakenfold was GOD, Lasgo was amazing, and Ministry of Sound released the best songs EVER.

Those don't even look like trance. They look like House and Stupid. I mean....I'll check them out...but you really had better not put any money on them making the countdown. I mean, this remix had better cut the vocals a LOT and totally rearrange the instrumentation. The original was THAT GOD DAMN BAD.

*sigh* *reluctantly adds songs to judgement list*

OK.

Well I hope you enjoy them anyway.

Here's some more you might have on the list but not definitely, I haven't fully read it:

KERNKRAFT 400 - ZOMBIE NATION
THE LOST BROTHERS - CRY LITTLE SISTER
MARCO V - MORE THAN A LIFE AWAY
BOO BOO AND MACE - HEARTSTRINGS

Hope you like them. If not, I don't really want to hear the whole story behind you not liking it - I'm not the one who made the song!

AHEM. its Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400.

God, pet peeve.

Ugh my bad! That annoys me too!

Believe me I did actually know that ;)

Aye. But you did suggest em. Thus giving me any right to bash you for crappy suggestions.

I'll also check these out. Thanks.

(No, that's not sarcasm. All suggestions are appreciated.)

Aha. Well you're right there.

Of course I am ;). But keep the suggestions coming, people. I likes em. More to look at.

How'd you link my name to your list?

I'll work on your picture size, I know how to do it.

Ah, there's a little tag thingy....you can find it in the help section of the site.

And thanks for the picture thingy. I'm probably raping Jim of bandwidth here XD

Excellent! Thank you very much!

Lassic, I have both the Astral and Original mixes of Cloudwalking. Maybe I've downloaded mislabeled files, but they sound exactly the same except their lengths differ (Astral 10:01 / Original 8:46). Do the ones you have sound the same? If not, any suggestions as to what CD I should download the songs from?

The Gatecrasher Classics 2 is the best version...the original, see, has a anthem that gains power over time,w hile the Astral mix settles for a repeating anthem but a different bassline towards the end of the song.

Hey TranceAddict. Just wanted to let u know that the tune called: "Acues & Elitist - Zonderland",
which appeared on George Acosta's: "All Rights Reserved" CD, is actually the "Carl B Remix".I am 100% sure about this.I don't know why George Acosta did'nt name it that way, though.

Sorry, my previous message, regarding the song "Zonderland", was meant for LASSIC and not TRANCEADDICT.

Is it?

Okay, thanks, dude. I'll make the update when I add the next batch of songs.

Wazzup Lassic.
I've asked this question over & over again, to various members of this site.I am now going to put the same question to you.Why is "The Quest - C Sharp", not on your list. It's a Trance Classic, if I ever heard one. It's so underrated amongst members of the site. It, basically, only appears on DarkTremor's list(at #200).This song deserves more recognition. The fact that it appeared on the recently released CD:"A STATE OF TRANCE CLASSICS", just proves what a legendary tune it is.
Please Reply

ASOT Classics was nothing but a delighted circle-jerk of Armin, Tiesto, and Corsten. I read a review that made the following points and more:

-No PvD
-No Push
-No BT
-No ATB
-One classic trance song
-Very little Rolf El Mar
-Very little Lieb
-No Sasha
-Poor choice of the Madagascar remix (Cygnus X's is better than Corsten's.)
-Largely epic songs
-It uses maybe 30% of all types of trance ever created.

So, I have not been in a hurry to get it. Add the fact that I already own about three-fourths of the songs, and I don't think I will be either. I never heard the song. That's why it's not on the list. Perhaps you should make your own trance list? Then you can put it as high as you wanna.

However, I will add it to the downloads list.

-DJ Lassic

Yip, I was a bit dissapointed not to see any PVD or Push/M.I.K.E on the CD. And I really think that some of ATB's old stuff deserved to be there You're also right about "Madagascar".Ferry's Mix isn't as good as the "Cygnus X" version.
The CD is basically an "ANTHEM" compilation, with little variety. And, is "Zombie Nation - Kernkraft 400" really a Classic Trance tune? Not Quite. And "ROOS - Instant Moments"?....No Thanks.

I actually read the same review, and saved it onto my PC.I also heard that Armin, alone selected the Tracklist, which just results in one personal point of view. But, is it really possible to obtain an Unmixed/Classic Trance CD, better than this one.I doubt it(Please if there is one out there, tell me, so I can buy it).It could have been better, and yes a follow-up/ Volume 2 would fix all this CD's faults.
But still, you don't often get a compilation with more than 5-8 great songs on it.Of course most Trance Lovers have all these songs, thats why they're Classics. And failure to obtain Licensing also effects the problem.I just think that it could have been worse, and it's not bad compared to most albums of this genre.
Cheers mate.

I think George Acosta's version is better. It suffers from the same sort of problems, but it covers trance very nicely. Though a lot of people dislike it.

Or get Paul Oakenfold's Tranceport or Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise 1, 2, and 3. They were never meant to be "classic" compilations, but they are.

-DJ Lassic

Yo Lassic

Thanks for always being consistent in regards to replying to messages.
I, however would just like to hear your thoughts regarding a specific song. A while back I listed a few songs on DarkTremor's page, which I thought should have appeared on his list. One of those songs was "Cosmic Gate - Raging (Flutlicht Remix)".I was enquiring why this song was'nt on the list. DarkTremor replied by telling me that the song not only did'nt deserve a spot, but also didn't deserve any recognition what so ever. He said that the song was so bad, and did'nt deserve the acknowledgement of anyone. I was completly shocked by his opinion, as I have always thought that the song was underrated. If it does'nt deserve a spot on the list, then it surely deserves more respect than it gained. In your opinion, do you really think that this is'nt a good song.

Cheers, Wes

Simply put, I haven't heard the track, so I can't pass any sort of accurate judgement on it. I did enjoy your reccomendeation for C Sharp, so I'll add this to the list as well. And don't get upset if someone shoots down your suggestion for a song-I would be a fool to think DT hasn't shaken his head many a time at my choice for Supernova as the #1 track. It's all about opinions on here. With the exception of Envio, nobody releases songs they know are gonna suck (Yes, Envio sucks. Stop saying he's a guitar master. Love Poison and Touched By The Sun both put me in a coma) so every song has a chance of making every list. I'll add it to the heap-o-downloads. That's the best guarantee I can give you.

EDIT: Rereading this comment, it was in no way meant to attack DT. I respect the hell out of the guy and his opinions, and agree with him on quite a lot of them.

Hey Lassic

Thanks for your honesty in your reply. By no means do I disrespect DarkTremor. I have loads of respect for him, which is the main reason that I was dissapointed with his stance on "Cosmic Gate - Raging(Flutlicht Mix)".I know his & my tastes are quite different, but I still never expected him to dislike it, whether it deserved a spot or not.
Yes, it's all about opinions. There are many songs which I like, even though I acknowledge that they are cheesy. However, "Raging(Flutlicht Rmx) is'nt one of them. But thanks again for your imput.

I'm also hoping to check out "Supernova" sometime soon. The way you spoke about it, really makes me want to hear it. And I'm also looking forward to seeing "C Sharp" on your List, sometime soon.

P.S: Is "Tranceaddict" dead?

I doubt he's dead so much as I think he's in a coma. Probably forgot this site existed and moved on. Let him go.

As for C Sharp, don't look forward to it being in the top ten. Rej is going up EXTREMELY high, as is Red Herring, and a few others. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to guess, I'd say it'll check in between 100-200.

And absolutely check out Supernova, that is a masterpiece, every time I listen to it I feel like I'm getting lifted into the stratosphere on a cool, clear night, wind whipping at my hair and face as gravity becomes negligible. Brilliant. Which is surprising, as Enervate pretty much sucked.

sup L, and nice going on the list. Dont know if you heard of this tunes, but you have got to take a listen. Might be worthy of your time ;)

Orbital - One Perfect Sunrise
Pervading Call - Destiny
Pervading Call - No Time to Rest ( Ace Da Brain Mix )
Pervading Call Two - On My Mind ( Ace Da Brain Mix )
Technique - Sun is Shining ( Mash Up Matt Remix )
Unknown Source - Nadjanema ( You can try the remixes as well )
Selu Vibra - Divine ( Original Mix )
First and Andre - Widescreen ( Original Mix )
Alex M.O.R.P.H. - Flaming Clouds ( Airbase Remix )
Alex M.O.R.P.H. and Woody Van Eyden - Heavenly ( X Tended Mix )
4 Strings - Diving ( Cosmic Gate Remix )
Accuface - Jet Lag
Hibernate - Mane Sonitus

I can post plenty more ;) but I gotta rush. Till later times.

I can't believe Sun is Shining isn't up there! Scndalous! I love that song!

Divine was alright, might have to give it a relisten to see if it's worthy though.

And I'll check out everything else. Thanks!

hi your list is intresting but let me mention some of my favourites
touchdown-mark norman
the last of universe-holyman
too many times-kai tracid (warmduscher rmx)
go-talla
lost in love-talla

Touchdown sucks.

And I'll check out everything else.

Thanks bro ;)

Yo Lassic

Thanks for replying to all my questions with much wisdom. Just wanted ask you to check out "Aquagen - Strings of Harmony" urgently. It's a great song, but very underrated & unknown.I don't think that it was ever released on vinyl, but it's still way better than any other Aquagen stuff. Give it a listen-to.

Urgently?

Heh. I have no power of what order I get what songs in, bro. That's my music giver's responsibility.

I will make an emphasis on that tune and the othe rone you reccomended though ;)

Hey Lassic, usual run of the mill suggestion time :)

Hallucinogen - LSD (or L.S.D. it doesn't really matter)
4 Voice - Eternal Spirit (Northen Mix)
Aphex Twin - Digeridoo
Aphex Twin & Robert Miles - Rare Duet
Clanger - Seadog
Cosmic Baby - Loops of Infinity (Expressionistic Mix)
Cosmic Baby - Liebe (Red)
Cosmic Baby - Airplay
Solar Quest - Acid Air Raid
(Dubiously Hard Acid Techno, but it is very close cut to hard Acid Trance so def give a listen.
Jon The Dentist - Global Phases (NOT the Agnelli & Nelson mix it is dreadful.)
Infected Mushroom - Mush Mushi
Infected Mushroom - Psycho
Infected Mushroom - Acid Killer
Cydonia - Animals
Hydrophonix - Cybernaut
Astral Projection - Ionized

Well there are some suggestions hope you give em a try, and about your mentioning of the not many people commentin the list i find that about my lists too. In fact, DT's is the only one that actually gets decent feedback. Come on Listology people, get some discussion and opinion flowing!

These look good. Added to judgement.

hahaha love the new title! xD

Thanks :p. I wanted something that stuck out.

PS As it's summer, I won't be able to contact J T Vu to get the tracks in the download pile, so to all people that gave me suggestions-perhaps you could email the tracks to me so I could hear them? My (main) email is lassictheking6@aol.com.

PPS I'm looking for more psytrance as well as acid to balance this list out a little.

The fact that Moby's - Go isn't on there is an abomination.

Shame on you.

Terrible ;)

Though I'll give the track a listen to see exactly how abominal it is :p

Yo Lassic

First of all, I would like to say that it's good to see that "C Sharp" is on your list.

I was just wondering how "Zonderland(Carl B Mix)" recently dropped from #33 to #289. How can such dramatic positioning occur? Surely you didn't
get bored of it that quickly.

I also noticed that you labelled it as a product of "Dutch Trance". I've always thought that I could make a fair comparison between "Dutch" & "Anthem" Trance, but I never thought this tune was Dutch. I do not doubt the fact that you're most probably right. Though I would like to know what, in your opinion, makes it Dutch.

I recently obtained Moogwai - Viola" after reading your description of it. The song definitely lives up to the description. It's one of those songs, which make your ears bleed, as a result of you turning the volume up, to maximum effect. Brilliant song. It's so energising.

P.S: Sorry about the "ears bleeding" comment. I've got issues.

We all do to an extent ;)

Anyway, Zonderlnd is Dutch for one reason: The breakdown. Listen to it. It stretches for far longer than it really needs to. Another things that stops it from being anthem is the absence of big, powerful beats-these beats are actually quite calm (for trance, anyway) and a super-obvious melody. It's more subtle. Give it a relisten and I think you'll start to see it more.

The drop was due to changes in my tastes-it was added to the list when I first discovered it and was listening nonstop, but eventually I just found it to be a very good piece of Dutch music.

And glad you like Viola. Be sure to check out the new tracks in the top 30 ;)

-DJ Lassic

If Dutch is sh*t, then Zonderland is good sh*t. I do agree though that the beats are quite calm, which my opinion, results in an anti-climax. But still, it’s goooooood sh*t.
Thanks for clearing that one up for me.

I’ve also been trying to find out
whether “Symphony" & “Finished Symphony” are one & the same song. I used to think that they were different songs. Then I began to think that “Finished Symphony” was just a remake.
Now I think..........?
I’m sure there’s some sought of difference between the two.

Oh, one more thing, before I go and watch “Walker Texas Ranger”. I would like to add another recommendation to your overwhelmingly big Download list. When you get a chance, try downloading “MOON PROJECT – MOMENTS ARE FOREVER”. It’s another M.I.K.E
production. Need I say more?

Not all Dutch trance is crap....I actually believe there is some very good Dutch trance, and that it's constant criticisms are because of its anti-rave qualities.

Symphony and Finished Symphony are not the same song. I am incredibly lucky in that I own both versions. Symphony can be found on NE2. Finished Symphony can be found on Hybrid's artist album, Wider Angle. They're two very different tunes, though I tend to lean more toward Finished Symphony.

And the tune will be added to my downloads. More Push is always welcome.

I'm with you man(in a non-gay way). I agree that there is some good Dutch stuff out there. I first decide whether I like a song, before I decide whether it's Dutch or not. Though, I still can't figure out why "System F- Exhale" is considered Dutch(Don’t laugh).

I'm sure you used to have "Symphony" quite high on your list. Now I don't see it anywhere. In the past, did you confuse it with "Finished Symphony" or did you lose interest in it?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to obtaining "Symphony". I've already got "Finished Symphony" which, although is different, it manages to entertain my Ear Drums.

P.S: When you listen to any Hybrid song’s, do you also pretend that you’re a Conductor in front of an orchestra, or is that just me?

Exhale is really the breakdown again. It tries to be extremely overdramtic. HERE COMES THE BEATS!...er...wait a sec...yeah, there we go!

I changed Symphony to Finished Symphony immediately after responding to your question about it, as i like the latter more.

And I really don't find all of Hybrid's songs that symphonic...Wide Angle was an incredible album though. I remember rocking to "If I Survive" and "Sine Qua Non" for weeks.

In correspondence to my previous post, I’ve always thought that that Ferry Corsten doesn’t produce to much Dutch stuff. And when he does, on the odd occasion, it’s still stands out as some of the better Dutch stuff. However, when I read Ishkur’s definition of DUTCH TRANCE, he ended the description with: “Trance is dead, Ferry Corsten killed it”. I was quite taken aback by that comment, and have spent nights crying myself to sleep, ever since.

Ferry, amongst others, might have been one of the pioneers of “Anthem Trance”, but he’s not to blame for the existence of all the bad seed producers and their drawn out breakdowns. If these producers’ breakdowns can be likened to a Rump Steak, then I think they prefer their meat overdone, and not rare.

I think that the Ferry is good in his unique way, and feel that the comment was a cheap shot. I’m aware that it was a tad humorous and light-hearted, but I’m not laughing. Instead, it resulted in me increasing my Manic-Depression medication.

What are your thoughts regarding that comment?

I dunno...I think it's more because Corsten gave Dutch trance huge support. He didn't produce it as much as he played it. People hear this stuff, and the automatically love it. Why? Cuz it's Ferry. So in a sense, he is partially responsible.

Well, as I remember Ferry was the first one who produced so-called "supersaw" with his Roland JP8000 synth (Albion - Air, 1997). And you can definitely blame that supersaw sound for the destruction of trance, because with it (and 2+ minute breakdowns) in every other trance song from 1998 onwards, trance lost its original meaning (hypnotic, repetitive music that has only one mission: to entrance you (to put you in the state of trance)).
And the problem is not only that he invented it, he also heavily overused it in his System F, Gouryella, Moonman, Vimana... projects. So the other producers who were copying that sound (Rank 1, Vincent De Moor, Tiesto) are not only one to blame for disaster.
All in all, you can take that statement as a joke, but you know what they say - there is a little bit of truth behind every joke (or whatever they say...)

That makes sense, but because I'm in denial, I think I will take it as a joke.

Cause it's true.

Most people who have been in the trance scene for more than three years have moved on. Just go to any forum, tranceaddict, trance.nu, its always the veteran listeners that are the ones criticizing the genre. That's because dutch trance gets old quickly...when you first hear it you enjoy it, but as soon as the really good tracks lose their appeal and you hear the same old generic uplift, you get tired of it and move on. Plus, you can't dance to anthem after anthem all night - you get tired of the buildup-climax-breakdown formula quickly.

True trance is dead. Ferry Corsten did help kill it.

If you want to learn more about what real trance sounds like, then watch this video:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7428851501542847413

Very good dutch trance?
Please, suggest some so that i can see which ones it is you mean...

I still prefer Ferry to Oakenfold though.

We all do.

Sure. Very good Dutch trance, in my opinion, doesn't rely too heavily on the breakdown, though it is a focal point.

Here, try....

"Northern Lights"- Smith & Pledger
"Endless Desire"- Varian (Mark Otten Energetic Mix)
"Exhale"- System F & Armin van Buuren
"Lighthouse"- Alucard
"Summer Dream"- Kuffdam & Plant (Stoneface & Terminal Remix)
"See The Light"- DuMonde
"Dream Makers"- Kuffdam & Plant
"Zonderland"- Acues & Elitist (Carl B Remix)
"Tomorrow"- DuMonde (Moogwai Remix)
"Sunrise"- 4 Strings
"Sunset"- Ron van den Beuken

I know that many of you guys don’t like Envio, to the point that his life may be in danger. I can understand why some of you dislike his style. I feel the same way regarding most of his songs, except for “Envio – Time to Say Goodbye”. I admit that I like the track, and think that is far, far, faaaaar superior to his other stuff. Does anyone else feel the same way?

No, it's probably terrible.

Shall I DL it anyway?

Nah, although I like it, I don’t think that you should bother downloading it. Especially seeing that you have a huge “Download List” already.

Don’t get me wrong, Envio’s stuff also offends my ears, and is the sole reason for the invention of earplugs. However, “Time to say Goodbye” was reasonably decent, and doesn’t deserve to be compared to “Love Poison” etc.

Hiya,

Maybe Dj Lassic can answer this question or anyone else that may know the answer.

I'm trying to find the name of a Trance song that I heard on WKTU 103.5 back between 00-02.

I only remember a few of the lines in the middle of the song, and it went like this.

'All in a dream, all, in a dream. Flying on an age of silver sea to a new home."

If I remember correctly it was a female singing, it had something to do with children in a basement and or getting high or being high. It wasn't until recently that it had resurfaced in a memory that it keeps bugging me. Its one of those things that I need to know other wise it will continue to pick at me.

It took me 2 years just to find Area and their song Tears Of Fire.

-Danicus

Huh....I have no idea. Only song I know that would come somewhere in the realms of maybe being close is "Gamemaster"- Lost Tribe. Pre-2000, though, and the lyrics aren't exactly that, though they're kinda remotely similar.

Gamemaster is a LOOOOOOOOOONG shot though. Perhaps you can tell me a bit more?

Hey Lassic, I don't mean to be offensive or anything, but your description of Higher State of Consciousness gushes a bit too much IMO. And the fact you keep stressing the acid would suggest you're a huge acid trance fan but from your list I can see you like it, but it's not your favourite sub genre. So I don't get why you make such a big deal of it, when 1) as you point out; it's not trance 2)The acid sounds really irritating and grating in that song and 3)there are other amazing acid songs such as Red Herring just a tiny bit below which deserve it more. Sorry, I'm not being delibarately annoying, or trying to start an argument, it's just been picking at me for a while and I have to ask why.

I like acid. A LOT. The reason I don't have more acid tracks on my list is because I can't download them, nor do any albums I see in the shops have recognizable tracks. When people send me acid songs, however, they're very likely to make the list, more likely than most other subgenres.

I have no idea why HSOC is above Red Herring, as I'm relistening to the latter right now. It has to move up, which is why the list is gonna get another overhaul come next update. New #1 based on very few tracks that have never diminished a shade while I was obsessively listening to them. But one sure spoiler is that Red Herring will move well up.

Any acid tunes you own you can send over MSN> My email is djspaydestryng@msn.com, but if you send em over email, contact me for my main email address.

Appreciate the comment!

-DJ Lassic

ok, i'll definitely add you, and it's glad to see you're reconsidering the placement of Red Herring, it's a great song! Thanks for replying, sorry if I seemed a bit belligerent with the comment it wasn't intentional.

Hi,
I'm going to be very vague here but i hope you can help.I am looking for a trance anthem from around 99-01,i think it charted quite highly at the time.It has a really sad breakdown(which is also the basis for the tune). It has no lyrics.
I've looked everywhere and tried many on your list but still can't find it.
Cheers,
johnny c

That's an uber-vague description. Charted quite highly....sad breakdown....whereabouts do you live? And can you get into a bit more detail, possibly?

Well, imho if one is fan of acid, then you'll def like HSOC, the acid in the middle of the track is wicked and all over the place. Red Herring is a lot more melodious, however the acid in it is a lot more subdued and blended, its not all out acid like HSOC.

The acid in HSOC kinda grates on me a little, after I heard it enough times. It's definitely more in your face than Red Herring, but that's not always a good thing.

Well I love acid, and I do generally like "in my face" acid as long as its not repetitive, then it gets boring.

Is anyone aware of a program which removes vocals COMPLETELY from a track. I don't even know if there is such a thing, but if there is, please notify me.

Nope. Save your time. It can't be done.

That blows.

Lassic, it would seem you're never on msn haha. Get on, I need you to send me some of the stuff off this list, I can't download ALL of it :P

Blind, methinks you copied my address wong. I never got an alert to add you :p

Though I don't have any music on my comp. It's all in the form of CDs or tapes or occasionally youtube. I can snail mail ya some stuff, possibly.

gotcha now. =]

guessing you're gonna add hearts/pyrospice soon?

Hey Lassic,

Love the list, some great tracks on here. I notice that you have 'Noone on Earth' and 'Alone Tonight' by Above & Beyond, but not 'Good for Me'. IMO 'Good for me' is superior to 'Noone on Earth', and definitely leaves 'Alone Tonight' for dead (I never did get how Alone Tonight was such a hit).
Worth a spot on your list?

Blairos

Good For Me is alright. Not quite good enough though.

Alone Tonight....I know it's cheesey, formulaic, compltely unoriginal, and offensive, but I love it. Sue me XD

Hey, that's your prerogative my friend, different strokes for different strokes and all that! I know that some other people, including darktremor, find almost all Above & Beyond tracks cheesy and formulaic but I just love 'Good for me'. After I posted I was checking out some of your other lists and saw that you have it on your list of top vocal trance songs, and another one which was best trance music of 2006, I think. So that's good to see!

I agree with what you say about "Alone Tonight", except for the part where you say that you love it.

I'm sorry to say that I going to add yet another recomendation to your massive download list. And surprise - surprise, it's another M.I.K.E production."Plastic Boy - Live Another Life" is the name of the track & it's another one of his Dark tunes. I don't know if you'll like it as much as I do, but it's worth downloading.

How about adding track lengths next to the songs? There are just endless variants of every song out there on soulseek.

I would add track lengths. I've tried. And I could've sworn I had a note sayin the longer length is generlly the preferable one :S. But I dunno. Guess I'll tack it on when I'm done with this update (About 10% completed).

To Wes: More M.I.K.E always has room on the add list ;)

I know this page is set aside for the discussion of Trance only. But because I am a South African, I would like to congratulate our National Rugby Team on wining the World Cup 2007.

Hey zombie- Supernova is still at #1!!! Your accusations on Blind's poll are presently inaccurate!!! What are we all to do!!!

This waiting period is quite controversial!!!

P.S. I meant "zombie" as in "welcome back from the dead..." Really I did. Lmao.

LOL yeah, I'm eager to see what you'll have to replace it. And here I was thinking you'd gone and done a TranceAddict and left =P

Nah. I've been REALLY busy lately (Relationships, health, attempting to get into college, etc) I'd never leave you guys!

As for the new #1, I'll give you a hint...it's one of the songs in The Fourth Wave :p

Whoa, you have almost no minimal on your list and two neo-trance (Nothing 93 Mix & I Have Put Out the Light). The only minimal songs I saw were Rej, The Sky Was Pink, and Horizons (which is like progressive with minimal aspects--the original mix that is).

I read that you were fairly scared of those genres :D
Listening to post-progressive trance might help you get into them. Post-prog is like, IMO, the middlegrounds between the world of progressive and minimal/neo. It tends to have trance and house elements too. You have a few on your list, such as You Are Sleeping, These Days, A Break in the Clouds, and Outhouse.

I would suggest James Holden's Balance 005. It's a mix of post-progressive and neo-trance songs. A majority of the songs on CD1 are post-progressive. (The neo-trance on that CD are tracks 1, 2, 3, 6). CD2 on the other hand is primarity neo-trance, which would be all but tracks 1 and 13.

Also if you've never heard them, check out:
Aril Brikha - Winter [neo] (especially this one)
Kosmas Epsilon - Innocent Thoughts [neo]
Moonbeam - Sunshine [minimal]
Extrawelt - Soopertrack [minimal]
Booka Shade - Mandarine Girl [minimal]

(I know the three of those are already on your songs to get.)

PS: You've never heard Northern Exposure!? (According to a your "So You Wanna See...")

I'm very slowly getting into the previously-scary genres :p. Here's the problem: My medium for obtaining songs has moved back to Vietnam. Now I can only hear new tunes by hoping they have a video on youtube. Not particularly effective.

Winter, Soopertrack and Mandarin Girl are all on the "to be added list". As well as Over The Ice and Bay of Figs. I'm slowly getting into it.

No, I've never heard Northern Exposure, though I really really wanna.

Lassic, this is an awesome list. It inspired me, I created http://audilicious.com using it.

*blush*

Well then. I love the site. Thanks a lot ^__^

" "Stella"- Jam & Spoon
I would be shocked if I didn't like this one. 30 seconds in as I type this. Just some basic drums and a little melody. Waiting for something brilliant. Ah, I just heard a little acid, I do believe! Ah, those pianos are lovely. Oh, there's those guitars. Lovely! Just lush and wonderful, I'm in Atlantis, paradise, I'm in heaven!
...

She drops it to the 30s though."

Exactly!!!! The first time I heard the track, I was amazed it was so good! Then the breakdown came and then when those vocals kicked it I was shocked. I can't think of a more absurd way to mess up such a brilliant track.

If you like acid...try Orbital - Remind
I noticed you still have to download Acid Air Raid, well more than worth a download so I suggest getting it asap.
Two acid break tracks you might wanna try out...
Fatboy Slim - Acid 8000
The Crystal Method - Blowout
Acperience 1 deserves a higher place imho.

Also, do you like the Goa style of acid trance too, or prefer mainstream acid?

I'll add Remind to the list.

Acperience might need a relisten, you could be right. This list is still a bit out of order.

I'll put those two other tracks on a seperate download list.

I like both goa and acid, but my problem is finding those sort of tracks. The dominance of anthem and progressive isn't necessarily a reflection of my tastes. It's a reflection of my limited method of obtaining songs, and if some are easier to obtain, then I'll be able to get those, and nobody can argue post-'96 trance is infinitely easier to find. I do enjoy acid quite a bit, as long as it's not TOO reptitive, and I liked what little Goa I've ever heard.

You could try Soulseek for the tracks. A few recommendations are -

Green Nuns of the Revolution - Ring of Fire
Astral Projection - Solid Electronics
Cydonia - Cactus
Etnica - Trip Tonite,Starship 101
Chi-A.D. - Astral Warrior
Cosmosis - Key to the Innerverse
Doof - Double Dragons
Jaia - Sommeil Paradox
Message from God (MFG) - On Mars
Shakta - Loopmutant
Shpongle - Dorset Perception (this one is a cert. for your list)

These are a good beginning, if you like these I could suggest more. I recommed getting Etnica first, they're amazing.

I don't have a personal computer. It's a family comp. Combine that with dialup connection....yeah ^^;

Oh! That isn't good. Well anyhow try getting the Etnica first if possible then.

I'm listening trance and other music genres since my first decent music listening (it was '92 and I was 9 :) ) and creating trance and dance tracks (since '98). I consider trance genre and some of its subgenres as the best for me. Put it simply its the _GREATEST_ (not to mention I consider orchestral music greatest too) - no more styles gives to me so much beautiful feelings, energy and great "unnatural" sound hehe. Now lets go to main theme. Your list is really huge and most interesting that I haven't heard 90% of this tracks. Probably because I live in small town in Russia and when Soviet Union collapsed here were not much import of trance music. What I have in my collection I consider the best from what I ever heard (~30-40k tunes) (there actually is many lost tracks which I like very much, but dont remember their names, so I'll hope I'll find them in your list ;) ).

Before you fall into my list I must say most important parts of trance, based on which I consider I like the track or not:
1. main melody and bass line - its originality and complexity; originality and complexity can be torn apart if I find, for example, some melody, which is quite simple but very original on other side.
2. sounds - fat, hard or soft - it actually dont have importance if the melody are considered good or great, but adds rating for me - because for me sounds also adds originality to the track. But if track dont have 1st part at least on good level, then track is not important for me
3. beat - its creativity and complexity; 4/4 time signature of course dont adds some creativity to the track, but much adds if drumloops is original and complex enough.

List of the tracks which I considered great and very good (listed in foobar2000 default playing order, dont consider the tracks on which I leave comments is have higher priority than others listed):

Absolom - Secret (Extended Vocal Mix) (1998)
Airheads - Stanley, Here I Am
Alphazone - Revelations (2004)
Alphazone - Sunrise (Original Mix) (2005) - just downloaded it yesterday and liked it, very good tune
Dave Joy - Second Chase (Alphazone Remix) (2002) - most hardest beat and bass which I've heard in hardtrance tracks, also very good melody
Dj U Hey Vs Dj Minagawa - Survivor (Alphazone Remix) - great melody
Nish - Sagittarius (Alphazone Remix) (2006)
Ralph Novell - Wrong Love (Alphazone Remix)
Anamorphic - Dream (Radio Mix) (2002)
Aquagen feat. Rozalla - Dreamland (Everybody Free) (2002)
ATB - Mysterious Skies
Blank & Jones - Desire (2002) - Nightfly even not standing close to this track
Blue Nature - A Life So Changed (Radio Edit) (1999) - very similar to "Titanic" theme, but anyway very good
Brisky - Celestial
Centurion - Centuries (1997) - dream trance
Chicane feat. Bryan Adams - Don't Give Up 2004 - excellent short vocal of Bryan Adams and overall very good song
CJ Stone - Infinity (Radio Edit) (2001)
Cosmic Culture - Time Of Your Life (Ohm Boyz Remix) - oh, thats simply awesome - pure hard trance consistence
Darude - Burning (2001) - much better than Sandstorm imo
Darude - Bitter Sweet (2003) - even better, one of the greatest tracks

Dolphin's Mind - Nation Of Love (2000)
DuMonde - God Music (2002)
Dune & The London Session Orchestra - The Power Of Love (1996) - not a trance at all, but great orchestral epic theme, dont add it to your list, just listen
Elevation - Ocean Rain - pure beauty of Electro Trance
Euphony - Carte Blanche
First And Andre - Widescreen (2007)
Franky Goes To Hollywood - The Power of Love (Neuer Künstler Club Mix 2000) - same remixed theme as Dune do, but in trance, and prefectly remixed
Future Breeze - Smile (2000) - a bit the same sound as in Darude - Sandstorm (I heard this theme before Sandstorm on german Viva channel), but melody with such sound is great, though very simple, but check my first rule
Gladiator - Now We Are Free (dont know if its really correct name) (Vocal Trance) - remix of Gladiator movie theme written by great Hanz Zimmer
Hypertraxx - The Darkside (2000) - breaktrance?
Imperio - Atlantis (1996) - pure dream, as others Imperio tracks, absolutely awesome production. Don't you noticed that some of your beloved tracks is connected to your memories? This is very subjective feelings, so I cant say it for everyone. Most of Imperio tracks connected to my memories.
Imperio - Brainstorm (1996) - very similiar to "Popcorn" theme by main lead sound, but absolutely different on other parts.
Imperio - Cyberdream (1996) - recommend to listen two variations of it - one with vocal in main part, other with saxophone. I like both. Sorry, I dont have the remix name of other variant, so you need to find it by yourself.
Imperio - Exodus (1994) - great theme with saxophone.
Imperio - Nostra Culpa (1994) - not even a dream, pure eurodance, so doesn't demanding to be in your list. Parts with choir should considered as the greatest choir performance in EDM tracks. lol. Now serious, this is one of the best eurodance tracks for me. I love that they choose Roman theme in their albums
Kosmonova - Discover The World (Dedonatis Short Cut) (2001) - simply great anthem trance track. Be sure to find Dedonatis Short Cut, original track is much different. But on the other hand original track have better intro. Thats tribal heya-heyaaa-heeeya-heyeeey...
Kosmonova Vs. C-Star - The Daydream (Sascha Van Holt Radio Mix) - absolutely stunning "electrowhistle" song.
Lee Haslam - Liberate - Very good hard and very fast acid trance
Marc Dawn - Expander (Flutlicht Remix) (2002) - hi-nrg trance. One of the greatest.

Mega 'Lo Mania - Close Your Eyes (1996) - happy hardcore?

Norman Taylor - Sexmachine (Hardtrancer Mix)
Robert Miles - Fable (1996) - better than Children imo
Sagitaurius - Floating Bells
Sash! - Little River (1998) - you'll never think that this is Sash
Scalya - I Like Chopin

Arrival - Kazantip (1999) - russian trance and better than PPK imo

Does anyone know where the orchestral piece, at the beginning of Tiesto's "Forever Today", originated from. I'm sure it was influenced by another song. When speaking of the track in one of his DVD interviews, he mentioned the group "Death Can Dance". I could'nt make out exactly what he was saying, with him being Dutch and all. Maybe they came up with the original tune.

WHAT!!!!! Fable isnt better than children, it sucks!
The same as children but with another melody, same elements and the melody is crap

i have a questions guys i heard a song the other day i wanna know who its by? please i'm dying to know? The sound is trance with a girl talking in the background about the boyfriend going to a club and she walks up to the door and the bouncer doesn't let her in and she sees hime dancing in the club and then she says like i came to the club i know you know the bouncer and he didn't let meeee innnnn

OK the only thing id have to add anywhere on the list is Oceanlab - Sirens of the Sea (Above & Beyond ORIGINAL Mix)....i know most of you would disagree but in my opinion its the best trance song of all time, even after listening to the stuff i hadnt heard before on the list...completely my opinion. Also i dont understand why the Kyau & Albert Vocal Mix would be on there.....the original A&B is much better.

Also I have one more suggestion but I'm not sure if you would consider it trance necessarily. It's called murderers by John Frusciante. It has a beautiful guitar melody and has a certian unrefined depth and soul to it with an interesting correlation between the beats and the guitar.

Also to add to my previous post, I urge all of you familiar with music theory to notice the counterpoint between the percussion and synth. It is very unusual, especially for a trance song, but provides an unusual depth and pleasant contrast. Also look at the sheet music if you can. It has an abundance of appearances of PHI (the golden ratio) and the Fibonnacci sequence. I believe that as far as composition skills goes this song ranks up there with Mozart and Beethoven....I'd love to hear your responses and even critical evaluation of my views.

I LIVE!

I'll check out the track, sure.

As for SOTS, I've heard the original. Didn't like it.

I have all 400 of darktremor's tracks and most of the additional ones listed here. Since some are pretty damn hard to find (Digeridoo and some Banco De Gaia ones), I was thinking of starting a torrent. However, I don't want to put them up if the torrent will be leeched 100 times and still have 1 seeder.

Anyone with a decent connection able to seed?

Not that I have some connection (actually I have quite limited bandwith), but uploading it to rs or deposite files, or whatever would be a good idea.(actually I'm planning to do my top 400 or smth. of trance and update it to rs). This should be like hmm... 10 MB per song (I think the quality isn't so much importent here, this should be rather a sample ;) -> 4GB (actually a suberb DVD)

im a lil late on this but if your still looking for seeds i can prolly do 20g worth if your need it. and i would looove to get a my hands of a torrent for this if you don't have it up do you know someone that does?

ps GREAT list im about 1 third of the way threw so far.

im just getting into electronic based music...grew up in a small town were metal was social acceptable beyond that very limited intelligence seemed to rule our play lists it was unfortunate. so thanks alot for the influence! so far ive been doing it the hard way...downloading massive torrents and going threw them..yes...no..maybe...if i were drunk kinda ratings lol

great list ! but I think For an angel by Pvd should be at least in the top 30!

Suggestions:
Robert Nickson - Spiral
Tiesto - Elements of life
A&B pres. Base - Surrender--->probably on my personal top 10 songs

Armin vs System F - From The Heart
Jose Amnesia & Jennifer Rene - Louder
Members of Mayday - 10 in 01
Tiesto - Bright Morningstar---> Maybe you will find it boring at the first listen but it's ambient and very calm, maybe you'll love it(I love it)

Solar Stone vs Scott Bond - Naked Angel --->featured on the first ASOT compilation and the best song of the 2 CDS in my opinion

Sunlounger - White Sand
Armin vs Rank 1 - This world is watching me (Cosmic Gate remix / Original Mix? both are good, can't choose)

A&B vs Andy Moor - Air For life

Most of my favorite songs are already on the list! Great taste of music and many tunes NOT on Darktremor's list that are on your list and I like

I didn't like Tiesto's latest album. Just didn't like it.

White Sand and The World is Watching Me, while decent, won't make the list.

Air for Life is supposed to be this amazing sort of ch00n, but I never really got into it.

Oh I forgot, on songs "to be download"

Don't Speak is by john Dahlback only Tiesto didn't participate in any way on that song he just put it in his ISOS 6 compil.

I like this list a lot, altough my personal taste makes me like the darktremor list more, but that is personal. I realy like to see underworld on no. 1, and not with born slippy, but my favorite underworld song, Dirty Epic (Dubnobasswithinmyheadman is also one of my favorite albums).
However, as a big (very big) James Holden fan, I do miss some songs from him:
James Holden & Julie Thompson - Nothing (93 returning mix)
James Holden - One For You
Roland Klinkenberg - Inner Laugh (James Holden Remix) (Personnaly I LOVE this one, one of the creepiest, scariest songs I've ever heard)

Hey brother

You missed Nothing, it's on the list.

I'll check the other two out though-thanks!

I'm sorry, I didn't see it, mayby because it's so low. It's one of my personal favorites, so I was a little bit surprised seeing it so low, but that is personal.

It's not a bad song-everything above it is just better (IMO)

I honestly think Born Slippy takes a lot of the publicity that Dirty Epic should have-that song is amazing, one of the best ever.

Two suggestions for you:
- Paragliders - Bagdad (Oliver Lieb Remix)
- Golden Girls - Kinetic (Frank De Wulf Remix)

I mentioned Dark Train by Underworld is pretty low on the list. I love to see it in the top 50 (it really is one of my favourites), but it depends on you of course.
Nice list though, I'm going to download the songs I don't have yet and make a occasional suggestion.

You're right d91, not sure how Kinetic can be left out of a trance list, especially a top 400 (IMO)? Darktremor's list also misses that track. As you already know my Top 1000 list has it sitting at 16. Kinetic was one of the earliest examples of trance, and was a huge hit, especially after legend Frank De Wulf got a hold of the track.... It was released on Belgium's R&S Records label... which in my opinion was the best label ever, and the best source for quality early 90s techno, hardcore and trance tracks.

Good suggestion

Yeah, Kinetic is such an awesome song! It should be on everybodys playlist! You and I share the same music taste! ;)

It seems pretty much that way, d91... except the fact he's not into neotrance, minimal & new skool goa, like you are

Hey, another account? But yes, that seems like it. I love old techno, hardcore, house etc. And many other electronic genres. I'm not very fond of uplifting trance after 2005, hardstyle and pop trance (Special D, Cascade... *pukes*).

Hey d91... I'm looking for a mp3 which I can't find.... It's a '98 trance track by Digitale called New York Doll... I have the Thrillseekers Remix, but I want the Original Mix.... If you have it, let me know....

I have to disappoint you. I don't have it, and also couldn't find it.

Looks like a very rare song. I could only find the Thrillseekers remix.

Doh'... yeah it's a Steve Hill track before he turned to a Hard Trance producer... Had the Original Mix on a tape... just gonna have to keep looking
