So I've gone from a slight interest in dubstep (I've listened to it since 2007) to it being what I listen to roughly 90% for the past 6 months. What changed? Well I bought a pair of bass heavy earphones and realised I had been missing out on roughly 75% of what there was to most dubstep tracks. Some more in depth research into the scene taught me that the original purpose of dubstep was as music to be played on a system so that you not only listen to the music, you also feel it through the sub bass. You can get this also to a lesser extent on high quality headphones that properly pick up sub bass or even better a subwoofer. And so I arrive at where I am today, much more well-versed, where I thought I'd post up a few links from Youtube (unfortunately therefore not the highest quality audio as it's Youtube and doubly unfortunately the spam filter won't let me post links for all of them so I've limited the links to my ten favourites; all others can be found by searching on Youtube) to introduce some people to the sound. Like I said though, it's fairly pointless to listen to these without the sub bass so at the minimum please listen to them at a good volume on headphones, not on laptop speakers. And if you really want to hear these in proper quality where the bass etc can be fully appreciated you'll need to track them down.

Also, I have limited it to 1 tracks per artist to try and create a bit more variety and stop me posting everything Loefah's done though you may see an artist's name more than this through collaboration projects. These will usually sound different so I will allow this. Therefore these do not constitute my favourite 101 dubstep tracks as I've tried to go for a bit of variety, even within a single artist's work. Onto the tracks!

Author Comments:

Dub in brackets means the track in question has not seen an offical release/giveaway and so only features on mix cds or dj mixes. This explains why some of the videos are named incorrectly. The names I provide are the generally accepted name for these tracks.

I'm not going into this much but there will be not be any brostep featured on this list except the Trolley Snatcha track which is a borderline case. If you like that track and none of the others by all means explore that sound further. But don't expect Flux Pavillion, Dr. P or Skrillex suggestions from me.

WHERE IS JOY ORBISON?
