personal recommendations

I know I'm probably not the only one that really likes playing with the online recommendations engines like amazon, etc have. The two best I've found are: for books, alexlit and for movies, moviecritic.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
I have a bad feeling Moviecritc is on its last legs. When I last checked, they seemed to have stopped adding new releases. Whenever you click for suggestions for films at the theaters, you receive lists of films from last year. I wonder if this is the beginning of the end.
Firefly used to be a great music recommender, but alas, it is no more...
