This is a list of my favorite albums of the rock era. And when I say album, I mean in the strictest sense. There are no greatest hits packages, No Live albums and no compilations. These albums were released as studio albums. Many of them have a concept that is trying to be conveyed but that is not a necessity.
I am listing this as a favorite's list as opposed to best, but a lot of these would make a best list if I ever decide to venture down that road.
There is no order to them. I chose to limit it to one album per artist, otherwise it might have been just a list of Springsteen albums.
Interesting notes after compiling this list, 6 of the albums were released in 1971 and another 2 in 1972. Yet in 1971 I was 10 years old and I was listening to AM radio standards like the classic R. Dean Taylor's Indiana Wants Me. 12 of the albums were released in the 70's a reflection of my age but also a clear indication that music has moved far away from considering Albums an art form. Got churn out a couple of hits and the rest of the album can be fodder to justify the cost. And the record Industry wonders why file sharing is phenomenon

Well, Mr. Andcag, it seems you've put together another very fine list. I only own two of the albums on here, but many of these are way up on my list of albums to buy.
Especially interesting choices for Morrison and Springsteen. I didn't think many people considered those two to be their best albums. I'll have to pick up St. Dominic's Preview and Human Touch sometime.
BTW, in case I haven't already said this to you, I wish you the best of luck in Russia.
Mr. Andcag, that is a new one. Human Touch? Certainly not his best. Tunnel of Love perhaps but Darkness, Born to Run and The River might beg to differ. Tunnel of Love is my favorite though.
Morrison hmm... to go ahead and ruin any music credibilty I might have, I would say I am not a huge fan of Astral Weeks. It is a stunnung peice of music that seems to be lacking something I find with a lot of his other albums. I like St. Dominic's Preview, Moondance and Tupelo Honey more....
D'oh! I meant Tunnel of Love, not Human Touch. Sorry, don't know what I was thinking.
And since I never had any music credibility to begin with, I'll admit that I totally agree with you on Astral Weeks. It's a great album, but there's something missing. I prefer Moondance and Tupelo Honey too.
I would have to agree, "Astral Weeks" while far more musically groundbreaking, is not as easy on the ears, at least my ears.
By the way, the fact that you are even discussing Van Morrison gives you heaps of musical credibility.
Van is still the man.
