Author Comments:

This started out as a Criterion-Holiday-Set list, but then I figured that I've been tilting at this windmill for over two years now so I might as well keep it updated.

Italicized titles are out of print. Bold titles are discs I own. Note the overlap. Coincidence?

You're mowing them down Cosgrove, any personal faves as of yet and more importantly, any I should avoid. Like Ali: Fear Eats The Soul for example.

:?)

Actually, I liked "Ali". The worst film I've seen that they've done a disc of (besides "Armageddon", of course) is probably "Carnival of Souls". I just don't get the acclaim -- it's boring and not creepy in the slightest. "Fat Girl" and "The Honeymoon Killers" also fall into the 'avoid' camp.

A personal favorite is quite a bit easier -- that would definitely be "Videodrome", one of my favoritest films ever. I also highly recommend "Umberto D", "Yojimbo" and any of the Clouzot films. But honestly, if they're putting their stamp on it it's probably worth a look.

Do you have to actually see the Criterion DVD to count it, or just see the film in any way?

Just see the film -- if I actually tried to see every DVD in the collection, there'd be some titles that'd never get scratched off ("This is Spinal Tap" or "Salo", f'rinstance).

This just in: Holy crap, Criterion's doing a disc of the no-budget '70s demon flick "Equinox"! WTF, mate?

When I was going through my own version of this list, I saw Armageddon and assumed that it was some old foreign film about the sadness of an old man. Then I looked it up and saw that it was the Michael Bay POS that I had in fact seen nearly ten years ago in theaters.

You've made really good progress. I've only got 25 or so seen! I've bumpbed Overlord to the top of my Netflix queue, though.

Some day, I will have slain this dragon... my resolve is now set, dammit. At least I don't have any more Michael Bay to slog through. (Is that a Transformers disc on the horizon? Oh, no -- no it isn't! Hooray!) Of course, given their track record together, I'm going to have to see The Darjeeling Limited at some point. Which I'd rather not.

Overlord is definitely worth a look. Pretty harrowing stuff.

I've got bad news: your foreboding on The Darjeeling Limited is correct. It BLOWS.

Yeah, I've heard that a lot. Crap. Maybe Criterion will give this one a miss. We can only hope.

Sweet movie is it worth watching? i have it on my amazon wish list but i'm not sure.

Yes. Yes it is. It's, um, interesting, to say the least. Horribly vulgar and sick stuff, yet fascinating.
