What I'm Listening to Today: 1/6/04

First CD was a country music CD. (YIKES) It really takes a lot to get me to listen to something country. I've never really liked it much, as it is a style that doesn't even come close to the classical and new age type music that I like. HOWEVER, there are some exceptions. A co-worker let me listen to "Classic Country: Queens of Country." I reluctanly admit that I enjoyed it. I'm only reluctant because this is not who I am. Stacey, listening to country? Don't let this change my reputation, OK??! The reason I enjoyed it, though, is because it's not the mainstream music they call "country" these days. There are some oldies on this CD like "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue," and the beautiful "Sweet Dreams of You." And I HATE Whitney Houston's version of "I Will Always Love You," but Dolly does a wonderful job. I've never heard her version before today, and I'm glad I did.

To extend this subject a bit more, I think the reason I've always disliked country is because of the images it puts into my head of rednecks. I hate using words that stereotype people, but I really don't know what else to call them. Dixie-flag-waving rednecks. Or drunks in cowboy hats sitting at the bar. (I think I even dislike pickup trucks for the same reason.) I like the more "refined" culture, I guess.

Anyway, I'm on to the next CD of the day. It's one of my FAVORITE soundtracks. I have this on cassette tape and since tapes are useless to me now, I have been unable to listen to it for some time, until my coworker brought in the CD today. Hence, here I am listening to "The Last of the Mohicans" Soundtrack. I have listened to this soundtrack so many times in my life, but I still have yet to tire of it. It puts such imagery into my mind of beautiful landscapes untouched by the evils of overdevelopment, men and women in a more simple time period where love, passion, emotion, and feeling meant more to people. I FEEL the music from this soundtrack. Perhaps having seen the movie helps bring me to such romanctic ideals, but nevertheless, it's astounding. I have to come back and add one more thing. This music actually makes me cry! It's a good cry, though. One of those beautiful cries. Like the music just really seeps right into my being. Song number 11 on the soundtrack is getting to me right now!!!

Rob Roy Soundtrack - Stunning! I don't want to fill up today's journal entry with tons of adjectives, just let me say that this album is one I'm glad to have in my collection. It's another one of those - sorry for the cliche - "moving" albums. I want to get up from my desk, run away from my cubicle and go storming into a large green field filled with Heather! How's that for "romantical?"
