Author Comments:
These are the CDs that I'd like to have someday. As you can see I'm especially fond of soundtrack music.

That's a very interesting list of music.
Several comments.
Mystery Girl, I think it's pretty darn good. 18 GH (Rhino) is still my personal touchstone.
The Ninth Gate, didn't like much and sold.
L. McKennitt, I think Mask & The Mirror is the best of those. The Visit has a really cool musical rendering of Lady Of Shallot.
Psychedelic Furs "Talk Talk Talk" is pretty darn cool and has Pretty In Pink on it.
Aimee Mann "I'm With Stupid" has really bad production, it sounds like R.E.M. "Monster". Yikes.
Beware of post 82 Bowie, they're kinda like the bunny in M. Python's Holy Grail.
Philip Glass "Low Symphony" is kinda cute if you wanna check it out.
I think you might like Brian Eno "Ambient 1: Music For Aiports" and Tangerine Dream "Phaedra". They're kinda spacey and quiet.
There is one song that isn't on my Roy Orbison Anthology album that I wish was: "I Drove All Night." Cyndi Lauper did it once, too, but Ole Roy brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear him sing that song. He could've crept into my room any night by singing that song! Celine Dion does an outrageously upbeat version of the song. I like hers the least of the three.
I have Mask & The Mirror on an old cassette tape and boy is that thing wore out now! 'Bout time I get it on CD.
Oh, I love newer Bowie music, especially his Heathen album.
I have Eno's Music for Airports and almost fell asleep listening to it. There were no melodies to keep me interested. At that point it just kind of turns into music that's playing in the background.
I've never heard I Drove All Night by Roy, didn't even know he recorded it.
Cassettes are gross. :)
I had the opposite reaction to Music For Airports, I thought it was very melodic. I guess you say poe-tay-toe I say poe-tah-toe. :D
Can ya tell me why ya like the later Bowie?
Perhaps the primary reason is the lush instrumentation in his newer works. Also, his voice is more mature, due to his age, and I swoon at hearing a mature sexy voice like what Bowie has these days. I especially go crazy when I hear him sing the introduction to "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)." That deep haunting voice gets to me everytime!
Yep, many a female friend has told me to put on Let's Dance while I am trying to get them to listen to Station To Station.
So, what's your take on Tom Jones and Barry White?
Of course we females are more keen to "Let's Dance." We're the types who'd like to "fall into his arms and tremble like a flower." :)
I haven't heard a whole lot of Jones and White, but what I have heard hasn't really got my attention. I'm probably more interested in the rock instrumentation in Bowie than I am the jazz/pop-like music in Jones and White. Are you a fan of the two?
Barry's my main man, he's got my back when...how should I say this...get amourous. I've gotta have my All-Time Greatest Hits.Tom I can take or leave, what's new pussycat, whoa whoa. I was thinking deep sexy voice type artists.
Subconsciously it might help that David Bowie is attractive. (At least in my opinion.) I don't know if that helps make his music more interesting or not, but it certainly doesn't hurt! :)
I went to answer your post and guess who popped up on the TV...Bowie! spooky. Anyway, I've never been interested in an artist I was psuedo-attracted to. I think I'll try it and get back to you.
I've discovered that no, I do not like the music of woman I am psuedo-attracted to. C. Agulliera Stripped (it's ok), B. Spears "Can't remember title" (huh?), Alicia Keys "Diary Of" (nope). Maybe Bjork counts. Whatcha think, Bjork yes/no? Kelis maybe? :?)
Are you talking about the Audi commercial where he sings "I'm never gonna get old!"?
Nope. I was watching Much Music (The canadian music station, woo hoo) and they were showing insane artists who got famous and faded away. Suddenly David, swivelling his hips and shaking his hands, was on the screen singing Fame. :?)
I have Cyndi Lauper's Shine CD. If your interested, I can burn you a copy and mail it to you. I have a crap load of blank cd's here. Let me know.
I would love Shine! Thank you thank you thank you! Might I return the favor?
