My favorite documentary is coming to DVD! Hoop Dreams arrives May 10. Queue it today!
Update: Criterion's doing it, and it will include audio commentaries by the two subjects!
Thanks for the very interesting link! I hadn't seen that (and didn't know about the "sequel").
Hoop dreams isn't even close to my favorite documentary, but audio commentaries by the two subjects? That means I'm watching it two more times.
Yeah, I think those have the distinction of being first commentary tracks I'm actually looking forward to for their own sake.
"Not even close". Ouch. So what's your top 10?
10 documentaries I liked better than Hoop Dreams, off the top of my head:
Capturing the Freidmans
Bowling for Columbine
Nanook of the North
Chavez: Inside the Coup
Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism
The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara
The Secret Land
I remember Hoop Dreams being interesting and entertaining, but it didn't grab me like I thought the subject matter might and I didn't see anything special about it.
Chavez: inside the coup? is that AKA The revolution won't be televized?, or just a bunch of continuity errors and propaganda?
I already have Hoop Drems in my wish list.
Yes, that's 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.' I didn't notice continuity errors.
You were not here, there was a show on television when they interviewed 2 filmmakers, comparing what happened with what was shown in the documentary there were more than 40 continuity errors, including some obvious problems with the light of the sun, something like it said according to the documentary that it was 3 o clock, but if you saw the shadow cast by the sun, it was actually noon.
Interesting. I'd have liked to have seen that.
