Desert Island Comedies

The New York Times Magazine has conjured up some interesting lists of movie comedies by asking some noted "funny people" what their 5 desert island comedies would be. The dilemma for me would be: "Do I really want to take my 5 favorite comedies or would I really not want to ruin my 5 favorite comedies by watching them repeatedly whilst trapped on a desert island for god knows how long?"

glad to see what about bob? and take the money and run get some credit, kudos to bernie mac and balaban...

Comedy is the only genre I've never even started to think about at one time or another as far as desert island goes, anyway mine would be...
-dr strangelove
-raising arizona
-take the money and run
-bottle rocket
-the meaning of life
...considering the big lebowski and loaded weapon would be the first two left off the list I've come to realize I have a thing for crime-related comedies.

I really don't know what to take, but Dr Strangelove has to be one.

I'd take (in no particular order):

The Miracle Of Morgan's Creek (1944)
Harold And Maude (1971)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
Seven Chances (1925)
City Lights (1931)

Maybe:

Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The 40 Year Old Virgin
This is Spinal Tap
Borat
Better Off Dead...

I cheated. Mine aren't comedies, but my desert island movies would be:

Saw (2004)
Water (2005)
Gimme Shelter (1970)
Top of the Food Chain (1999)
The Match That Started My Fire (1991)

I would take:

Arsenic and Old Lace (1944, Frank Capra)
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005, Judd Apatow)
Modern Times (1936, Charles Chaplin)
Shaun of the Dead (2004, Edgar Wright)
This Is Spinal Tap (1984, Rob Reiner)

Oh my God, how could I forget A Hard Day's Night?! It's The Beatles AND lots of funny!

I scold myself.
