hi again mate, i agree with alot of these, groundhog day for one, great choice! office space, hell yeah!

but heres some i don't agree with and where i would of put them:

The Burbs (10 - 1)
Kingpin (20-10
Grosse Point Blank (25 - 15)

but tis a great list and these are just my opinons.
Meet The Parents (30 - 25)

Cool. Thanks for the feedback. In this case, however, we'll probably have to agree to diagree. I thought "The 'Burbs" was one of the weakest Tom Hanks comedies. "Kingpin" is good, but it's a weaker calibur flick that you usually find on cable TV on Saturday afternoons. "Grosse Point Blank" just baffled me as to why it was so popular. I like John Cusack a lot for some reason, even though I don't like his movies much overall. As for "Meet the Parents," it may be that it's funnier to those who've gone through an engagement and experienced some funny things with you're fiancee's parents.

Well, those are my justification for those flicks. Thanks again for your feedback, though. I appreciate it.

Ladies Man...

where do you think " The Onion Movie" should be plced ? It is not even listed and yet is one of the best laughs i have had watching a movie, check it out mate well worth a watch , bloody funny stuff.

Well, after reading this list, I agree with most, but where's "The Kentucky Fried Movie" or "Harlem Knights"? Where's most of the Zucker Brothers movies? It IS a good list, but there are some major mistakes in this, I think. I agree that Groundhogs Day was a good movie, but #1? I disagree....

In todays stressful environment, it is extremely important to seek some sort of environment or stressbuster.Hindi jokes are an easy way of relieving ones Stress.

Pleased you included Cable Guy so highly, it's very underrated. Where's Truman Show? :)

Yeah, The Cable Guy really has gotten a bad rap for some reason. I think it was the first Jim Carey movie to demonstrate he had talent beyond slapstick comedy.

As for the Truman Show, I have it categorized under Drama because I think the movie had more important serious moments than laughs. It's been awhile since I've seen it, though.

Where is Wanda?

I forgot to put it up there. I need to watch it again as its been too long.

Really? OK. But if someone mentions the word "comedy" to me, "Wanda" is the first name that comes to my mind.

i am shocked and appalled to see Anchorman not somewhere at least in the top100 i can only assume u havent seen it cuz its hilarious will ferrell as always is great. i honestly thought harold n kumar was possibly the worst movie ive ever seen despite maybe 1 or 2 funny lines. anyway its just my opinion
thanx

Nope I haven't seen Anchorman yet, so you were right in assuming that's why it's not on the list. As for Harold and Kumar Go to White Caste... yeah, it's a stupid stoner comedy but if you accept it for what it is, it's pretty funny. Another example is Evil Dead II which is ridiculously bad, but that's what makes it so funny. Thanks for your comments.

whats ace ventura doing so low

I'm having a hard time understanding your list. Is this a list of the "best" comedies, or the ones that you think are funniest? I find it extremely hard to grasp the fact that you've rated Spaceballs, easily one of Mel Brooks's weakest film, higher than...oh, Zoolander? The Good Girl? Young Frankenstein, Good Morning Vietnam or Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory?? It simply doesn't make sense, tastes and opinions aside.

I agree! And where's White Castle? Happy Gilmore?

And Friday? That's a classic! :)

I completely disagree with your statement about Spaceballs. It was an excellent parody of Star Wars/Star Trek and one of the funniest films I have ever seen. Although I did think Blazing Saddles was funnier.

Hey - this is HIS list. All funny bones are NOT created equal. That said, its a great list, and lists a lot of movies that I want to see. Spaceballs & Meet the Parents are very funny to me, so are Airplane & Animal House.

Hi, This just in - They made films BEFORE 1980! Some of them you might find even funnier than Groundhog Day! For instance:
"Dr. Strangelove", "Duck Soup", "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "Animal House", "Blazing Saddles", "Some Like It Hot", & "Airplane!", to name just a few.
Seriously - This Top 10 reads like the "Reduced for quick sale" bin at Wallmart.

This list is rank ordered by the movies that make me laugh the hardest, thus the best comedies I have ever seen. Dr. Strangelove, Blazing Saddles, Animal House, and other older movies are on my list but rank ordered lower because they didn't make me laugh as much. I was born in the '80s so that probably has something to do with it. Nevertheless, I stand by my choices. I've found that comedies are the most divisive genre of film when it comes to reviews/ratings because people's tastes vary so greatly. In general, comedy movies never get consistently good reviews by movie critics or even the general public. In my opinion, the best comedies are those that some people love and other people hate. The worst are those in the middle ground that try to please everyone.

I don't expect many people to agree with my rank ordering of comedies here, but I still say these are the best comedy movies around. If I were simply trying to garner praise for my tastes, then I'd probably put all the popular classics at the top like you suggest.

Two Words...Celtic Pride

Hey, I agree with many of your choices, especially Spaceballs! However, Animal House, Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail and Airplane! should have definitely been in the top ten.

Thanks for the kudos. I think I will have to bump the Holy Grail up a bit. I need to watch Airplane! again.

Risky Business a comedy? Interesting...

This message is for parkwaydrive.
Maybe you should think before you critique. Have you even watched any older comedies, because all I see in your list are more recently made movies. Granted you are entitled to your opinion, but so is the creator of this list. If you want to talk about bad taste, I would advise you to read what you have written. It leaves a bad impression on you and no one else.

I have had a look through the list and not a bad list it is but..... where is "The Onion Movie" ? that has to be in the top 5 as a pure classic and i cant see "witless protection" or "The animal" and the "superhero movie" should be higher in the list it is not a bad cross between spiderman and hancock !

U know what you missing here apart from movies that people have already pointed out. BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA...hilarious

I think this is a great list, but I don't understand why your listing those oldies. I mean, humor and comedy then whas totally different.
Maybe they should be on a seperate list.
Anyway thanks and don't forget to update. Your missing quit a few

hey what about sorority boys i dont think ther was a minute where i wasnt laughing

Did I miss any original Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers on the list?

Thank you for sharing the list of the best comedy movies. Just this year, another comedy film was released last September 25; it entitled the Invention of lying formerly known as “The side of Truth”. The concept of the story is that, everyone is telling the truth, means the world “lie” does not exist, even if it is a small lies or white lies. Until one day, Gervai’s character discovered it and tells the world's first. What do you think happen next? Well, it’s for you to find out. The film also features Jonah Hill, Jennifer Garner, Christopher Guest, and comedienne phenomenon Tina Fey. If the Invention of Lying reviews are as good as the film is it might be worth a small loan to go see.

Umm 2 films missing, role models and Hangover, too hilarious films but well done, its obviously your choice but 40yo virgins a bit low?

"mind if i use your.... magnum"
"go ahead"
"shit,.... does this go on my balls"
SLAP

WHAT
HOW IS BREAKFAST CLUB #90???

Son in Law is such a stupid movie. You should have not even ranked it, according to me.

I don't agree with a single part of this list. And I would elaborate, but there's nothing to elaborate on. It's everything about it that I don't agree with; every single placement.

There are 277 movies on this list. Thats a hell of a lot of movies to watch. Also this list was made in February 2005, so The Hangover is obviously not on here, although I'm sure it would be. However, Groundhog day is a bold first choice.

Overall, excellent list, I approve.

For a couple of you people complaining:
Airplane! is overrated... I can't watch it because every character is braindead. Animal House was cool at the time, but as a college student, I've seen enough bros yelling about beer and trying desperately to hook up with drunk girls to realize how outdated it is. Zoolander is obnoxious, WIlly Wonka can be unintentionally funny sometimes.

Terrible list.

What about Midnight Run (1988)With Robert De Niro.

What about Life (1999) With Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence.

I have two words: Mean Girls. However, that movie may seem over popular to you. Have you at least seen it? And if so, did it make you laugh? If not I understand but for the most part this is a great list. Good job

shocking movie.

Dodgeball? For some of these it just seems like you added just because you've seen them.(270 odd movies is a LOT of movies to watch not to mention these are only comedies. So one has to assume if you didn't include s movie it's either because you haven't seen it or you accidentally skipped over it when you were crating this list. Just a thought.

I agree that personal opinion is an important consideration for comedy. For instance, I made it through less than 30 min. of Borat because I found it too nasty and offensive to be funny. But I know a lot of people loved it and its on a few "best" lists. One of my favorite comedies is Delirious with John Candy. Its delightfully silly. Other great ones are Jaques Tati's M. Hulot's Vacation, Mon Oncle, and Trafic. I see "The Apartment" on many lists as a comedy but I found nothing funny in it at all, just a situation that was very sad.

great list!

i must say its a great list but i do wonder why Tenacious D the pick of destiny is shining with its absence? not sure when it was made thought so that could be it would still like to hear what you guys (and gals possibly) think about the movie personally i think its jack blacks best movie and the best comedy/music based story line movie ive seen

Everyone is entitled to their own taste, but some of the films and rankings on this list are shocking to me. Two things stand out:

1. This is Spinal Tap. I don't see it on the list. Is that an oversight?

2. Not a single Woody Allen movie on the list. Have you just not seen any of his films? If you haven't, I'd suggest you try them out.

15. Dumb & Dumber (1994)
122. Dr. Strangelove
WTF?
Must be a generation thing.

Message in a Bottle is a comedy? Well, tastes vary. I'll have to go through my list of comedies on Netflix that I've seen and come up with my own list. This one is just too, too limited in scope, not having the older ones. No Woody Allen, no Thin Man. Sad. Just very sad.

Great list overall... let me recommend you watch "O Brother, Where Art Thou"? I'd say it belongs in the top 10, and I've seen a lot of comedies.

Sorry to say this, but "The Cable Guy (Jim Carrey)" Is the bottom JC movie. Is not a comedy, is a combination of frustration and loneliness. This movie wasn't meant to exist. So, Is a great mistake to put it in the list, and a greater mistake to be in 14th position. I know there are worse than this, but this movie almost costs JC's career.

Thanks.

1. the Big Lebowski
2. Death to Smoochy
3. O' Brother There Art Thou
4. Big Daddy
5. Anchor Man
6. Pineapple Express
7. Napoleon Dynamite
8. Meet the Parents
9. Dogma
10.The Hangover

I agree that the guy who made this list is a total tool. As if the Spinal Tap omission didn't make it obvious enough, putting Girl Next Door at #6 was the clincher. Sure, tons of great ones on there, but I wouldn't be surprised if these are the only 277 he's ever seen. Girl Next Door was utter piece of trash. I thought a movie about a porn star movie next door to a high school kid seemed like a great idea, and Elisha Cuthbert is real hot, but it seems like that movie was made by high school kids. The writer of that movie has never met a real porn stars. That movie had no clue what real porn stars act like. Oh wait, everyone reading this is a virgin.

Nice list, understandable for your age so no complaints, unlike some twats who've posted here. Still, for what it's worth i'll leave a snippet of my feedback for you.

No problem with Groundhog day, Office space, Dumb & dumber. No South Park the movie? Good Morning Vietnam hmmm not any more, neither Spaceballs. White chicks surprisingly funny. Difficult genre this, quite often you have a soft spot for a comedy film when it's not actually that funny. Conversely, Princess Bride is funny, but is it a comedy film? And, for instance, you could watch Fred Astaire singing 'Heaven, I'm in Heaven' from the movie, 'Top Hat' and be in hysterics (like I was the other night) but that just doesn't make sense!!! (I was drunk).

Some that would be on my list (but as said, no complaints;) Marx Bros, M*A*S*H, This Is Spinal Tap, Withnail & I (maybe), The Importance of Being Earnest (1953 vers. recommended), some old carry-on films (though not all), and same for old b&w St. Trinians.

But you won't want to listen to me: I don't think Will Ferrell is funny at all! Nor that phoney div, Sandler! (Aaaagh!)

Hey there ... I just wanted to give props to the guy who created this list. It can't be easy remembering 277 movies and then trying to rank them. In fact ... I brought this list up so I could get some ideas of movies to watch again. Although I don't agree with everything on here, I am still happy that you enjoy comedies enough to list 277 of them in an order that made you laugh. There is no way for someone to list that many movies and have, not only everyone, but ANYONE agree with it. It is personal choice. There some people who hate Will Farrell. I love him. There are some people who love Epic Movie ... I don't. Does that make me or the other people wrong? Absolutely not.

Overall, thanks for the list and I can't wait for an updated one with the movies that have come out since this post was created and the others are seen.

I will definitely use this list when picking movies to watch! One of my absolute favourites is not on this list, 'Fatal Instinct' (1993), and of course, the Onion Movie. so good. 'Best in Show' (2000) also. Maybe they made the list and I didnt see them, but if not, watch them!

I loved my big fat greek wedding! Although I didn't really think kate & leopold was that funny but to each their own. You have some good movies on there though, even if the ranking seems a bit skewed.

Did I miss Hot Fuzz or have you just not seen it? I loved Shaun of the dead as well.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is way too low.

I wasn't going to post, even though I'd seen so many near the bottom of the list that should be so much higher than some of the other rubbish above it. But when I saw Airplane at No. 125 I had to say something. Some great films named on this list but frankly it's in completely the wrong order!

How has K-9 made your top 10 over films like, Ferris Bueller and See no evil hear no evil? Airplane 2 "the sequel" doesn't even get a mention?
