hey AJDaGreat

did you enjoy 25th hour?

Very much so! My review is #10 here and I gave it an A-.

How was Bruno. Was it funny? Worth seeing? Hold up at all to Borat?

The reviews of Bruno have been weaker (though still decent), so maybe take this with a grain of salt, but I thought it was absolutely hilarious. I don't think it's as smart as Borat but I do think it is as funny.

hey AJ , did you like inglourious Basterds? i personally loved it, its in my top20 of all time. Christoph Waltz and Melanie Laurent derseve oscar nominations i think

I did like it, although not nearly as much as you. I couldn't help feeling like substance-wise, it was a bit thinner than Tarantino's other movies, even compared to the Kill Bill films (maybe not compared to Death Proof). Perhaps that's missing the point of what is, after all, an incredibly entertaining style/genre experiment, but still.

I thought Inglorious Basterd's real power lay in it's morbidly hilarious script. He also showed a great ability to develop tension, every scene was fraught with it. Of course, this was really the only trick he had up his sleeve but it was so well executed that rarely did it get tiresome. It's not a cinematic masterpiece by any means, but I thought it was better than both Kill Bills, which were somewhat disposable.

Different strokes, though...

I agree with you completely, except (maybe) with the assertion that it's better than Kill Bill Vol 1. I'll have to think on that...

Maybe "disposable" was harsh, but I found the premise (condensing bad movies into one good one) to be more interesting than the actual product. He seemed to have lost his touch when it came to the actual writing, and the structure of simply shuffling the timeline didn't quite work. Really, the whole thing should have just been one movie. Also, the daughter thing at the end was laughable, such a poor attempt at tugging heart strings.

Kill Bill was too self-indulgent in that I got the feeling Tarantino just wanted to remake his favorite scenes, he didn't seem to have a sense of the direction his movie was going. It's fine to make films about films, but Tarantino didn't really succeed with this one.

Not to mention that I heard he was constantly high on marijuana and on ecstasy while making Kill Bill. wtf is that?

Hey, did you like Mr. Lazarscu? I thought its realism was stifling and I really preferred 4 months.

I feel completely the same way. I was bored and disappointed. I love 4 Months though.
